Delhi Congress hits on Rekha government’s one-day pothole repair campaign

On one hand Rekha Government termed  “A New Model of Governance in Delhi” to its one-day pothole repair campaign. On the other hand Congress’s Devendra Yadav said that the rush job to repair the broken roads by PWD just when monsoon hits the Capital cannot hide the failures of the Rekha government and the ‘Super CM’ over the past 100 days.  PWD Minister has said, “This massive one-day pothole repair campaign stands as a symbol of administrative willpower. No delays, no excuses — just visible, verifiable work. With real-time monitoring, public participation, and clean execution, this effort is already being seen as a template for other cities. Through this initiative, the Delhi government has sent a clear message: the era of missed deadlines and paper promises is over. Delivery is now non-negotiable — and this is what “Modi Ki Guarantee” truly means: visible change, timely action, and leadership that stands accountable.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav said that it only shows the incompetence and lack of planning by the  BJP Government that just when the monsoon rains hit the Capital,  the Rekha Gupta Government remembers about the broken roads and the need to fill the potholes on a single day without giving any thought to the sustainability of such rush job, though her Government has been in power for over four months, and people have been putting up with potholed and broken roads all these months. He said that the Kejriwal Government had not repaired any of the roads for the past many years, leaving even some of the busiest roads in the Capital in a terrible condition, and it was not in the priority list of the Rekha Gupta Government to repair them as soon as her Government took charge. He said that that it was strange that the Rekha Gupta Government and ‘Super CM’  Pravesh Verma are now resorting to a patchwork  job to fill the potholes just before monsoon to mislead the public, though such quick-fix works  will not last long, and it would start crumbling very soon.

Devender Yadav  said that over 100 days of ineffective governance and administrative failures cannot be hidden by filling a few potholes on a single day, as the broken roads, overflowing drains, and dilapidated infrastructure across every area of Delhi clearly show that the government has only engaged in publicity stunts, and  not in undertaking the  actual work with any seriousness before the  monsoon floods the roads.

Yadav recalled that at a meeting convened by the Rekha Gupta Government on February 28, 2025,  it was decided to complete patchwork  repairs and pothole filling within a specified timeframe, and prior to this, on February 21, officials had given a detailed presentation to the Chief Minister and her Cabinet about the urgent repair works needed to be carried out. He said that after the meeting, what followed was essentially an attempt to deceive the residents of Delhi, as the dust from the broken roads was actually a layer of the failures of the  BJP and Kejriwal governments and the public continues to suffer for that.

Public Works Department is responsible for the upkeep of  approximately  1,400 kilometers of roads, and nearly 7,000 potholes were identified for immediate  repairs using maintenance vans, and the tender for the work  was to be issued by March 15, and work was scheduled to begin by April 15, but nothing happened as the Government’s priority was different, and not on matters that needed urgent attention. He said that similarly, a target of 200,000 square meters of patchwork repair was to be done, with the work set to start on April 7 and  to be completed by April 30.

Though the Indian Meteorological Department had clearly stated that the monsoon would arrive in Delhi between June 19 and 25, yet the Government remained busy with publicity stunts and photo ops, and not in undertaking priority works. He said that neither were the drains cleaned, nor were the roads repaired with the stipulated time.

Devender Yadav said that a minister today pretended to have filled some potholes on the roads, which was nothing but a deception. He said that  even those ministers, who consider themselves ‘above the Chief Minister’, failed to get their departments  complete the work within the stipulated deadlines, which was a clear proof of the utter failure of the Government.

when a “yellow alert” has been issued for monsoon rains in Delhi today,  a false story is being spun about filling 3,400 potholes in 15 minutes. He said that the BJP MLAs have also been dragged into this propaganda drama to deceive the public once again, as the truth is that, with the very first monsoon rain, these potholes will reappear, and after the monsoon, Delhi will once again be engulfed in dust and pollution.

BJP government is following in the footsteps of the Kejriwal government in making false promises, patchwork jobs and neglect of the public. He said that such rush job repairs and superficial actions will neither change the reality of Delhi’s roads nor alleviate the difficulties faced by the people. He said that  Congress will continue to fight to protect the interest of the public and expose the superficial jobs of the  BJP Government.
