Very soon heritage monuments can be used for hosting cultural and private events

India’s capital Delhi is evolving into a new milestone of creativity. With a strong focus on empowering innovation across art, culture, cinema, music, fashion design, literature, and journalism, the Delhi Government is working to transform the city into a Global Event Hub for live events, entertainment, and destination weddings.

Permits and licenses from a single digital platform

a Digital Single Window Clearance System, which would enable event organizers to quickly and efficiently obtain all required permits and licenses from a single digital platform. Discussions also covered topics like multi-platform sponsorship models, strategic capital subsidy schemes, and financial and marketing support to promote the MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions). These measures are intended to elevate Delhi’s global appeal as a premier event destination.

Minister for Tourism, Art, Culture & Language Kapil Mishra convened a high-level roundtable meeting today at the Delhi Secretariat. The meeting included senior officials from the department and prominent leaders from the event management industry. The primary objective of this discussion was to design a comprehensive and culturally rich policy framework under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to firmly position Delhi as a Global Event Hub. The session also aimed to explore a visionary roadmap that would establish Delhi as India’s hub for “Global Cultural Leadership.”

GST relaxations to destination wedding industry

Another crucial suggestion discussed was the introduction of GST relaxations to boost the destination wedding industry. Industry stakeholders also proposed that permission processes be simplified for hosting events at Delhi’s historical and cultural heritage sites. This would allow both domestic and international organizers to showcase Delhi’s rich legacy on a global platform.

Exorbitant venue rental rates in Delhi

A key concern raised during the meeting was the exorbitant venue rental rates in Delhi. Event professionals pointed out that organizers are often charged unreasonable charges. Responding to this, Kapil Mishra said, “The government is taking this matter seriously and will ensure a transparent and fair system for venue allocations.”

Kapil Mishra assured attendees that the Delhi Government would fully support this industry at every level. He said that policy reforms will be introduced soon to make the venue allocation process transparent, and reiterated the plan to roll out the Single Window Clearance system. “I will personally bring all key industry concerns to the attention of the  Chief Minister,” he added. “Delhi has 70 to 80 heritage monuments that can be effectively used for hosting cultural and private events.”

Kapil Mishra further stated “It is time that Delhi emerges not just as a historical and political capital but also as a ‘Global Event Hub’. Our goal is to prioritize this sector in policymaking so that the city’s future can be reshaped through soft power. Delhi Government is committed to promoting this vision under the ‘Branding Delhi’ initiative by incorporating the valuable suggestions shared today into future policy decisions. A follow-up meeting will be held soon to take this dialogue further.”

The roundtable was attended by senior officials from the Department of Tourism, Art, Culture & Language, as well as prominent representatives from the Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA), including its President Samit Garg, Rajeev Jain, Founder of Rashi Entertainment, Ankur Desai from Saregama, and key stakeholders from BookMyShow and other leading organizations.
