Delhi Chief Minister . Rekha Gupta has said that Delhi is no longer just the national capital but is rapidly moving towards becoming India’s ‘Creative Capital’. In the next 80 days, more than 30 major and memorable Indian and international cultural events will be organized in the capital—something that has never happened before. She said that to make Delhi an ‘Event-Friendly City’, the rentals of major stadiums and auditoriums have been effectively reduced, and these venues are being upgraded to international standards. The Chief Minister further said that to facilitate the organization of such events smoothly, a single-window system has been introduced for event permissions, logistics, and security processes, to further promote Delhi’s live entertainment industry. The Chief Minister also stated that the Delhi Government is committed to promoting cultural diversity and the spirit of national unity with the guiding motto of “Virasat Bhi – Vikas Bhi” (Heritage as well as Development).
Renowned artists to perform
At a press conference held at the Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister shared this information. Delhi Government’s Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Kapil Mishra, also shared his views on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that over the next 80 days, a wave of music and culture will sweep across the national capital as renowned artists from India and abroad perform in Delhi. These include Travis Scott, Krishna Das, Zakir Khan, Papon, AP Dhillon, Armaan Malik, Jonita Gandhi, Radhika Das, and many other stars. She said that this initiative is being undertaken jointly by the Delhi Government, the Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA), and the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) to ensure that these events maintain high standards, run smoothly without any administrative or logistical difficulties, and provide complete enjoyment to the audience.
The Chief Minister stated that the “Concert Economy” is an important economic sector for states, which deserves serious attention. She expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shri Mansukh Mandaviya for their continued cooperation, which has enabled the Delhi Government to take significant steps in this direction.
The Chief Minister said there was a time when organizers hesitated to hold large concerts and events in Delhi due to lack of facilities and institutional support. Understanding this challenge, the Government has taken an important decision to reduce the tariff rates of all major stadiums under the Central and Delhi Governments—such as Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Indira Gandhi Stadium, National Stadium, Thyagaraj Stadium, and Chhatrasal Stadium—and upgrade their facilities to international standards.
Multi-crore live entertainment industry
The Chief Minister informed that to provide greater convenience to event organizers, the processes for event permission, security, and logistics are being simplified through the implementation of a Single Window System. This system has already been successfully used for organizing the Kanwar Yatra, Ramlila Committees, Durga Puja, and Chhath Puja. Now, the same model is being applied to the event management sector so that Delhi can further advance in Ease of Doing Business.
She mentioned that India’s live entertainment industry is currently worth around ₹150 billion, and Delhi’s share in it is expected to reach ₹2,500 to ₹3,000 crore in the coming years. The Chief Minister urged the people of Delhi to get ready for the upcoming cultural events and positive transformations, as the city is now fully prepared to welcome guests from across the country and around the world.
She also announced that the Delhi Government will develop new world-class event venues equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, where lakhs of people can attend concerts and cultural programs together. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Delhi will now emerge as an ‘Event-Friendly City’, where not only public enthusiasm will increase, but the global community will also be eager to visit. The Chief Minister reiterated that the Delhi Government is working with full commitment under the guiding motto of “Virasat Bhi – Vikas Bhi.”
This is just the beginning
During the press conference, Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture Kapil Mishra said that Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is to make Delhi the center of live entertainment and the “Concert Economy”. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has prepared a solid and practical roadmap to implement this vision in Delhi.
Mishra stated that a detailed and dedicated process has been followed behind this transformation. The Delhi Government held a roundtable meeting with over 40 key representatives from EEMA, FICCI, and the event industry, in which the Chief Minister herself participated actively and provided valuable suggestions.
He said that during the discussions, it became evident that one of the major reasons for the lack of large events in Delhi was the high rental rates of venues. The Central Government, within a month, decided to reduce the tariff rates of major stadiums in Delhi. As soon as this decision was implemented, Delhi began to re-emerge as the hub of grand and large-scale events.
Mishra said, “This is just the beginning. The Delhi Government has an even bigger roadmap that will translate the Prime Minister’s vision and the Chief Minister’s farsighted plan into reality.” He added that this roadmap will take Delhi to new heights in the fields of art, culture, language, and tourism.
