Delhi Assembly to Host First-Ever All India Speakers’ Conference – Honouring 100 Years of Vithalbhai Patel’s Legacy

“All necessary preparations are on track for the successful conduct of the All India Speakers’ Conference. This historic gathering not only pays tribute to the legacy of Veer Vithalbhai Patel but also reaffirms our collective commitment to strengthening democratic traditions and ensuring greater accountability in governance,” said Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta while reviewing the arrangements along with Deputy Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly Shri Mohan Singh Bisht and senior officials of the Assembly today ,and inspecting the commemorative exhibition while is all set to be inaugurated tomorrow by Hon’ble Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah .

The Delhi Legislative Assembly will host the two-day All India Speakers’ Conference along with the Centenary Commemoration of Vithalbhai Patel, the first elected Indian Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly, on 24–25 August 2025. This historic event, being held in the national capital for the first time, will bring together Speakers and Deputy Speakers of State Legislative Assemblies, as well as Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of State Legislative Councils. Distinguished keynote speakers include Harivansh Narayan Singh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha; Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister; Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister; and Meira Kumar, Former Speaker of Lok Sabha, alongside other eminent dignitaries.

A special exhibition showcasing rare archival records, photographs, and documents on Shri Vithalbhai Patel and the evolution of India’s parliamentary institutions will also be inaugurated, accompanied by cultural performances symbolising the spirit of cooperative federalism and unity in diversity.

The deliberations over the two days are expected to provide a meaningful platform for presiding officers to share experiences, exchange best practices, and explore new approaches for the functioning of legislatures. With a special focus on digital innovations such as the AI-enabled tools, the Conference aims to strengthen transparency, efficiency, and responsiveness in lawmaking. By honouring the legacy of Shri Vithalbhai Patel while embracing the technologies of the future, the Delhi Assembly seeks to set the tone for legislatures across India to become stronger instruments of democracy and closer to the aspirations of the people.
