Record 374 Applications Received for Setting Up Kanwar Camps, Compared to Just 170 Last Year. Government will provide 1200 units of free electricity to each Kanwar camp.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the arrangements for Kanwar camps. She shared that this year, there is a special spirit of service among the people of Delhi, which is why a record 374 applications have been received for setting up Kanwar camps. “We have already approved most of them, and the rest will also be cleared soon. Our government is committed to granting permission to all,” she said. In contrast, only 170 applications were received last year, which reflects the high level of public trust in the current administration.
The Chief Minister discussed the facilities to be provided at Kanwar camps in detail and described this responsibility as one closely linked with public faith and devotion. Grand welcome gates are being constructed at the Delhi borders to greet them.
She criticized former governments for fostering a culture of corruption and chaos, which led to repeated hardships for the public. Institutions had to wait for months even for basic facilities like tents, and payments were often delayed for years after the events.
The Chief Minister further added that the entire process has been made transparent with a single-window system that has simplified and expedited the permission process. Institutions no longer have to run from one agency to another. Permissions are now being granted within 48 to 70 hours.
CM Gupta also announced that this year the government is providing up to 1200 units of free electricity to each Kanwar camp. In addition, the government is fully managing toilet facilities, including 24/7 deployment of sanitation staff to maintain cleanliness.
She also reiterated the government’s earlier commitment to providing grants to institutions on a 50-50 basis — 50% before the event and 50% after. “The government is fully prepared. As soon as we receive the final list, the first installment will be disbursed with just the click of a button,” she said.
She contrasted this with the previous regime, where payments to Kanwar committees were delayed for up to five years, stating that the former government was more focused on corruption than on serving the Kanwariyas.
Single-Window Clearance for Ramleela Events
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has assured Ramleela organizers in Delhi that her government will not let any obstacle hinder the performance of Ramleela events. She stated that efforts will be made to grant permissions for Ramleela performances through a streamlined single-window system.

During the meeting, organizers informed the Chief Minister about the difficulties they face in obtaining No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from various departments. At times, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) creates challenges, while the Horticulture Department of the Municipal Corporation often delays NOC issuance. They raised several such issues and requested the Chief Minister to resolve them. Organizers also proposed that this year, the Delhi Government should station ambulances at Ramleela venues to provide emergency medical services.
