Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today organised the First Nigam Veerta Football Cup Tournament 2026 at Khatu Shyam Ji Stadium. Students from various MCD schools participated in the tournament, showcasing great enthusiasm, discipline and sportsmanship.
The event was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, Chairperson of the Standing Committee Satya Sharma, Chairman of the Education committee Yogesh Kumar Verma, Vice Chairman Amit Khadkhadi, Additional Commissioner (Education) Pankaj Naresh Aggarwal, along with senior officials of the Corporation.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said, that Veer Bal Diwas inspires us with the values of courage, sacrifice and patriotism. Through sports, Corporation aims to ensure the holistic development of children, helping them build discipline, leadership and self-confidence. This football tournament is an important step in that direction.

Chairperson of the Standing Committee Satya Sharma said, that Sports are a strong medium for the all-round development of children. Along with education, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is giving equal importance to sports activities so that students are better prepared to face the challenges of life.

Chairman of the Education Committee Yogesh Kumar Verma stated, that Promoting a sports culture in MCD schools is our priority. Such tournaments encourage team spirit, discipline and healthy competition among students, which lay a strong foundation for their bright future.
The passion, determination and powerful performance displayed by the players on the field clearly reflected that sports can pave a strong path towards a bright future for the youth of Delhi. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will continue to make sustained efforts to promote the overall development of students through such sports initiatives.
