In a landmark move towards sustainable urban living, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has officially recognized Bapu Dham, Chanakyapuri, as its fourth “Anupam Colony”, celebrating the community’s outstanding efforts in waste segregation, composting, and recycling.
NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra made the announcement at a special ceremony attended by senior officials including Secretary NDMC Tariq Thomas, Advisor (SWM) Rajiv Kumar Jain, and members of the local residents’ association. The newly installed “Anupam Colony” board was unveiled within the colony premises.
“This recognition is a proud milestone made possible by the collective efforts of residents, support staff, and NDMC’s proactive approach,” said Chandra.
Sustainability in Action
- A tempo of organic compost was flagged off for use in NDMC parks.
- A Neem sapling was planted by the Chairman alongside Director (Horticulture) Jitender Singh Dabas.
- The colony introduced “Neki Ki Deewar” (Wall of Kindness) — a donation point for reusable items to support underprivileged citizens.
- A new RRR Centre (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) was inaugurated, reinforcing NDMC’s commitment to community-led waste management.
- Delhi’s First Mechanised Sweeping Colony
- Bapu Dham becomes the first NDMC colony to implement mechanical sanitation, replacing traditional broom sweeping with advanced equipment — a major leap in urban cleanliness.
- The society also acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Shakuntla Shrivastava, Dr. Ankita Rai, and the Area Sanitary Inspector for their continued support.
- This recognition builds on NDMC’s earlier “Anupam Colony” titles awarded to D1, D2, Satya Sadan (Bharti Nagar), and Aradhana (Burmah Shell CHS), all of which exemplify responsible civic living
“The Aces of AI” Exhibition Showcases Student Innovation
NDMC Students Explore Generative AI & Virtual Reality
NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal inaugurated “The Aces of AI”, a pioneering exhibition of student-led projects in Generative AI and Virtual Reality at Navyug School, Sarojini Nagar.
Organized in collaboration with Homi Lab, the initiative provided structured training in AI tools and immersive technologies to students from grades 9–12 across NDMC and Navyug schools.
“AI is shaping the future. This program empowers students with creativity, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving,” said Chahal.
- Exposure to 15+ modern AI tools, including Machine Learning and VR Labs.
- Projects showcased included AI-generated text, images, and interactive applications.
- Awards were presented to top-performing students.
Director (Education) Kritika Chaudhary praised the initiative as a milestone aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
This first-of-its-kind program marks NDMC’s commitment to future-ready education and positions its students as emerging leaders in innovation.
