In Action mode : Ministers Hit Ground to make Delhi Waterlogging-Free

Before onset of Mansoon, Delhi ministers Reviews Ground to take stock of situations. Environment and Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa conducted a detailed inspection of the Wazirpur Industrial Area, accompanied by the local MLA Poonam Sharma and senior officers of Industries and DSIIDC.

The Minister reviewed the drain cleaning work already completed in the area and expressed satisfaction at the pace and quality of desilting carried out. He noted that the cleaning has been done on a war footing, with special focus on ensuring that open drains and thousands of potholes are being systematically covered/repaired. Importantly, he issued strict instructions to completely avoid manual drain cleaning and to utilise mechanised equipment such as super sucker machines, procured by the Delhi Government to ensure safety and efficiency.

“Despite the presence of industrial waste and sewage in the vicinity, the drains in Wazirpur are free-flowing, which clearly reflects the intent and ground-level action of the Delhi Government,” said Minister Sirsa during the inspection.

With the vision of reimagining Delhi’s industrial areas, the Delhi Government has also taken a landmark step by reinstating the concessionaire system for redevelopment of all industrial areas under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The move follows longstanding demands from industrialists and is inspired by the success of similar redevelopment efforts in the Narela and Bawana industrial areas. Under this model, private concessionaires will be responsible for long-term maintenance and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable industrial ecosystem.

Minister Kapil Mishra participating in pothole-filling work

Delhi’s Development Minister Kapil Mishra personally took to the streets, inspecting roads along Vikas Marg and actively participating in pothole-filling work alongside municipal workers. The Minister further emphasized, “This initiative by the Delhi Government marks a crucial step in providing the citizens of the capital with safe, seamless, and improved commuting facilities. The previous government had completely neglected road infrastructure, to the point where roads seemed to exist only within potholes. For the first time, Delhi is fully prepared for the monsoon. A high-intensity campaign is underway to clean sewers and drains on a war footing.”

Historic Drive by PWD: 3,433 Potholes Fixed Across Delhi in a Single Day

The pothole repair drive began early Tuesday morning and continued into the evening, covering a massive 1,400 km stretch across main roads, internal lanes, and vulnerable accident zones. Delhi was divided into three key zones — East, South, and North, with simultaneous work carried out across all regions. A total of over 200 maintenance vans, fitted with advanced machinery and high-quality material, were deployed to ensure speedy and durable repairs. The success of the operation depended on the large-scale deployment of over 1,000 personnel, including 70 Assistant Engineers, 150 Junior Engineers, and hundreds of workers and supervisors.

Every repair was documented with geo-tagged and time-stamped photos, taken before and after the work — a measure introduced to ensure complete transparency and eliminate any scope of malpractice. “This wasn’t just a pothole repair mission — it was a commitment to end the cycle of delays and excuses. Every pothole filled was a message that delivery is possible when the intent is honest,” said Parvesh Sahib Singh.

Importantly, the maintenance vans will continue to operate throughout the monsoon season, addressing any new damage immediately. This continuity is key to making the initiative sustainable.
