In a major breakthrough against cybercrime, the Cyber Police Station of South-West District, Delhi has dismantled a digital arrest racket operating from Jaipur, arresting three fraudsters who duped a senior citizen of ₹16 lakhs.
The accused facilitated mule accounts for international fraudsters based in Cambodia, who targeted Indian citizens through digital arrest scams. Accounts were procured from locals, tested for operability, and shared via platforms like Instagram and Telegram. Cheated funds were layered through multiple accounts to conceal the money trail.
The Incident
On 7 December 2025, a 75-year-old woman lodged an e-FIR after being cheated under the pretext of a “digital arrest.” She received a WhatsApp call from a fraudster impersonating a CBI inspector, who falsely accused her son in a fabricated case. The victim was kept under psychological intimidation and continuous video surveillance for two days, forcing her to transfer ₹16 lakhs into accounts provided by the criminals.
Investigation & Arrests
Recognizing the gravity of the offence, a special team led by Insp. Pravesh Kaushik under the supervision of ACP Vijay Kumar adopted a multi-pronged strategy involving technical surveillance, SIM tracking, social media analysis, and money trail examination.
The probe revealed a syndicate based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, procuring mule bank accounts from Kotputli to park cheated money. Following raids in Kotputli and Sanganer, Jaipur, three accused were arrested:
- Chotu Lal Meena (20) – associate, managing mule accounts
- Yogendra Gujjar (19) – agent, procuring accounts from locals
Recovery
During the raids, police seized:
- ₹1 lakh cash
- 9 mobile phones used in the fraud
- 10 passbooks/chequebooks linked to mule accounts
