Mayor of Delhi Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh appeals to citizens to avail the benefits of Property Tax Amnesty Scheme 2025-26 – Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO)

Mayor of Delhi Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh today urged all eligible property tax payers to make use of this last opportunity to avail benefit under property tax amnesty scheme 2025-26 SUMPATTIKAR NIPTAAN YOJANA (SUNIYO) as now the scheme has been further extended up to 31st March, 2026.

The Mayor stated, “We appeal to all property owners/occupiers to make full use of this golden opportunity under SUNIYO and settle their outstanding property tax dues without incurring penalties or interest. The Scheme shall not be extended beyond 31st March, 2026”

The Mayor added, “We have not increased the late fee but are keeping it same as applicable during the previous extended period of February month at 5% i.e. from 01.02.2026 to 28.02.2026.”

The Mayor highlighted that citizens are actively participating in Tax Amnesty scheme availing the benefit of SUNIYO scheme. To date, 1,87,425 taxpayers have already benefited from this initiative and paid the property tax to the tune of Rs 1089.97 crore up to 1st March, 2026. Out of which, 211.44 crore of property tax is collected from a total of 1,34,666 residential properties, while 878.52 crore of property tax is collected from 52,759 non-residential properties.

Under SUNIYO, taxpayers can avail a complete waiver of property tax along with interest and penalties, prior to the financial year 2020-21, provided that they pay the principal amount of property tax, without any interest and penalty, for the current year (2025-26) and the previous five financial years (i.e., FYs 2020-21 to 2024-25).

It is also to be highlighted that 1,02,201 new taxpayers have availed the benefits of SUNIYO Scheme and paid property tax for the first time and tax collection from these first timer taxpayers under SUNIYO is Rs. 395.96 Cr.

The Mayor has further highlighted that the total tax collection as on 1st March, 2026 for the current year (including SUNIYO Scheme) is Rs. 2893.86 Cr. from 12,78,445 taxpayers vis-a-vis tax collection of Rs. 1937.44 Cr. from 10,56,528 taxpayers over the corresponding period. It indicates that there is increase of 49.37% in tax collection and 21 % increase in number of taxpayers over the corresponding period. It is worthwhile to mention here that total tax collection for the FY 2024-25 was Rs.2132.29 Cr. from 11,33,161 taxpayers which is significantly less than the tax collection for the current financial year as on date.
