MCD organizes “Swachhotsav” programme at Nehru Place as part of ‘Seva Pakhwada’

Municipal Corporation of Delhi organized a ‘Swachhotsav’ programme in Nehru Place Market on Wednesday evening as part of the ‘Seva Pakhwada’ to raise awareness about cleanliness and strengthen public participation.

Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from South Delhi Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, MLA Chandan Kumar Chaudhary, Standing Committee Vice-Chairman Sunder Singh Tanwar, Ward Committee Chairperson Yogita Singh, Ward Committee Member councillor Rajpal, MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar, senior officials of the MCD, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

In his address, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his nationwide campaign for cleanliness and said, “Due to this public movement for cleanliness, today we can say that the country is free from open defecation.”

Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu said that the country’s illustrious Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the country to be free from open defecation on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The Prime Minister himself picked up a broom and set an example, demonstrating that today everyone is engaged in cleaning. He said that today every citizen of the country feels that “cleanliness is our nature and our culture.”

Hundreds of public welfare programs were organized as part of the Seva Pakhwada, which began on the birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Numerous programs were organized in the areas of education, sanitation, health, and development.

In his address, Union Minister of State Shri Sahu thanked all participants, including school children, organizations and business organizations, for their contributions to these public welfare programs.

Sh Tokhan Sahu praised the work being done by the MCD for its contribution to cleanliness. He informed that the MCD has completely eliminated 151 garbage sites. Under the “Ek Ped Maa ke naam” campaign, more than 16,000 trees have been planted in Delhi, and hundreds of events and cleanliness rallies have been held.

He said that the inauguration of waste-to-energy plants, biogas plants, and other projects by the MCD demonstrates their commitment to cleanliness. All these “Swachhata Hi Seva” programs demonstrate that “cleanliness is not just a government scheme, but has become a mass movement.”

He stated that the BJP government at every level in Delhi will work together to make Delhi pollution-free, clean, and green, and fulfil the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a developed India by 2047.

Union Minister of State Sh Tokhan Sahu assured all public representatives that the Central Government will provide all possible assistance for Delhi’s development.

Speaking about this cleanliness initiative, Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh appealed to every citizen to actively participate in the cleanliness drive and support the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in maintaining cleanliness in their areas. He stated that keeping Delhi clean and green is our primary duty and requires collective efforts.

On this occasion, Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Sh Tokhan Sahu, visited the exhibition featuring stalls of MCD’s Education, Health, DEMs, and Property Tax departments. He was also briefed on the topic of waste management by senior officials of MCD. He also awarded the winning participants of the painting competition.

Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble MP, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, thanked Union Minister of State, Tokhan Sahu, for his support in Delhi’s development. He also expressed confidence that under Tokhan Sahu’s leadership, the problems facing all areas of Delhi will be resolved very soon.

He said, “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji and Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, continuous development work is going on in Delhi. I am fully confident that in the coming years, Delhi will become a great city.”

Sh Bidhuri thanked the MCD for regularizing Delhi’s sanitation workers. He praised the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s efforts to ensure ‘a clean Delhi’ and stated that increasing the number of sanitation workers and improving sanitation resources can make ‘Delhi -a world class city.’

Bidhuri said that to improve Delhi, a new Master Plan for Delhi should be introduced at the earliest, the DDA policy should be implemented, and a land pooling policy should be implemented.

Ward Committee Chairperson, Smt Yogita Singh, emphasized the importance of citizen participation for the success of the cleanliness campaign. She said, “Cleanliness is not just a one-day or one-month effort, but a sustainable lifestyle.”

She said, “MCD is cleaning all zones at the grassroots level, but public participation is crucial to ensuring that our zones are garbage-free and our streets are garbage-free.” Smt Yogita Singh urged people to practice waste segregation in their homes.

On this occasion, MCD Commissioner, Ashwani Kumar, urged citizens to cooperate with the MCD in its efforts to keep the city clean. He stated that cleanliness is a daily process, and its success requires the cooperation of all departments, non-governmental organizations, RWAs, and market associations.

Commissioner Ashwani Kumar stated, “We have launched extensive cleanliness drives in areas that are typically difficult to clean regularly, such as slums and areas along railway tracks.”

He added that during the recent cleanliness drives, over 1,000 metric tons of garbage is being collected daily across Delhi. Over 200 participants, including MCD employees, students from various schools, market associations, citizens, and local RWAs, participated in the cultural program.
