Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Satya Sharma, informed that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is undertaking large-scale measures across all zones for the prevention of vector-borne diseases. Public Health Department has intensified the drive through Malaria inspectors, DBC workers, field workers and officials who are on Ground Zero and accelerated ward-level special drives & awareness campaign in all the zones.
Special ward-level drives and awareness programs are being conducted in all zones. Nearly 3,000 DBC workers and 2,000 field workers are working in mission mode for mosquito breeding detection and elimination across all zones.
Sharma stated that several concrete measures are being implemented for the prevention of diseases. To further strengthen field operations, 4 to 6 hand fogging machines have been provided in each ward, ensuring quick and effective spraying. In addition, a special inspection team has been constituted at the headquarters level to monitor and review the progress of anti-mosquito measures across all zones.
She said that DBC workers have been allotted beat-wise areas where they are providing health education along with door-to-door checks for mosquito breeding and its destruction. Similarly, field workers have been allotted beat-wise areas where they are spraying insecticides in drains and on stagnant water at public places.
Several measures are being taken for prevention of these diseases. Anti-larval measures are being carried out regularly in all zones. This year, 26,759,779 houses have been inspected, of which 137,043 houses were found positive for mosquito breeding. So far, 879,364 houses have been sprayed with insecticides, and this number will continue to rise.
MCD is also enforcing legal action under the Malaria Bye-laws of the DMC Act to prevent mosquito breeding. Till now, 98,976 legal notices have been issued and 18,795 prosecutions have been carried out. The Corporation has decided to further intensify legal action to curb mosquito breeding.
Under the special campaign, vulnerable areas such as drains and water bodies, construction sites, parks, nurseries, hospitals, schools, and government offices are being covered. For prevention and control of mosquito breeding, MCD is coordinating with major stakeholders such as Delhi Jal Board, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Public Works Department (PWD), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), DTC, Railways, Horticulture Department, DMRC, DDA, ASI, Police, Education Department and other government offices in Delhi, to ensure mosquito breeding is prevented in and around their premises.
