Now microchip in dog will record their sterilization status

To provide relief to the residents of the capital from the growing problem of stray dogs in MCD area, the second meeting of the sub-committee constituted by the Standing Committee was held today. The meeting was attended by environmentalist and BJP leader Maneka Gandhi and Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Satya Sharma. The meeting was chaired by the Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee and Chairman of the Sub-Committee,  Sunder Singh.

During the meeting, it was decided that the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centers would be further strengthened to ensure timely health checkups for dogs, including blood tests, along with sterilization procedures. Zone-wise Anti-Rabies Awareness Camps will also be organized to educate citizens and ensure protection against serious diseases like rabies. In the meeting, senior officials of MCD and councillors were present.

Officials informed that the Corporation, in collaboration with various NGOs, plans to implant a microchip in every dog at these centers. The chip will record details of their sterilization status and other vital information, enabling effective monitoring and tracking in the future.

Maneka Gandhi, who was present at the meeting, also emphasized the need to further upgrade and equip the ABC centers run by the Corporation. She stressed the improvement of medical facilities, trained staff, adequate resources, and a robust monitoring mechanism to ensure that the sterilization process is conducted smoothly, humanely, and effectively.

She further suggested that a comprehensive and long-term strategy should be formulated with the collaboration of animal welfare organizations, experienced NGOs, and local citizens, so that a sustainable and sensitive solution to this issue can be achieved.

Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Satya Sharma, stated that the Corporation aims to adopt a holistic approach to strike a balance between animal welfare and public health. She added, “We are taking strong and effective steps in this direction with the support of all concerned agencies and experts to resolve the issue of stray dogs.”
