The objective of MCD is to significantly reduce civic issues during the monsoon through timely and comprehensive action, quick ground response, and effective grievance redressal. As most of Delhi’s drains are interconnected, these coordinated efforts are essential to ensure the city remains safe and functional throughout the rainy season.
MCD is working in coordination with key agencies such as the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), and Irrigation and Flood Control Department. This inter-departmental coordination is ensuring timely and comprehensive cleaning of all interconnected drains across the city.
Desilting work is being carried out extensively with the help of advanced machinery and a large workforce. Equipment such as super sucker machines, suction-cum-jetting machines, jetting units, poke lanes, backhoe loaders, and trucks are being used for cleaning drains.
Ward-Level Teams Constituted
To handle waterlogging more effectively, MCD has constituted special teams at the ward level. Each team includes the concerned Junior Engineer (JE), Nalla/Works Beldar, and Mate. Adequate manpower and tools/equipment have been stationed at JE stores during each shift to ensure immediate response to any emergency.
Fully Operational Control Rooms for Complaints
Control rooms at the MCD headquarters and in all 12 zones are fully functional, where citizens can register complaints related to water-logging, fallen trees, or damage to buildings. Corporation has directed all zonal officials to remain vigilant and ensure time-bound resolution of grievances to minimize inconvenience to the public.
Chairperson of the Standing Committee Satya Sharma, stated that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has fully mobilized at the ground level to combat waterlogging during the monsoon. A robust and proactive action plan is being implemented to ensure timely and effective solutions, especially in vulnerable areas of the city.
79 Permanent Pumping Stations and 465 Mobile Pumps Deployed
She informed that 79 permanent pumping stations are fully operational across the all zones. Additionally, 465 mobile pumps of various capacities have been deployed to ensure rapid drainage. MCD has also placed extra portable pumps at vulnerable locations in all 12 zones to address water accumulation swiftly.
Zonal Officials and Deputy Commissioners on High Alert
All Deputy Commissioners, zonal heads, and senior officials are on high alert and continuously monitoring the situation on the ground. Their active supervision is enabling quick deployment of manpower and technical resources, ensuring prompt and effective response to waterlogging.
