STANDING COMMITTEE- MCD community halls to be made available for skill development and vocational training – Proposal Passed

Several crucial issues related to civic amenities, sanitation, education, and public safety were discussed and firm directions were issued to officials.

Chairperson Sharma said that the responsibility of MCD is not limited only to waste management, but also includes ensuring basic civic facilities, a safe environment, and education. She emphasized that the issues raised by councillors were considered seriously and officials have been directed to act with accountability.

The major directions issued in the meeting are as follows –

All public toilets must be given special attention for cleanliness and timely repairs.

The process of approving building construction plans should be simplified and made transparent. Citizens who already have approved plans must not be harassed unnecessarily.

All swimming pools under the jurisdiction of MCD must be inspected regularly to prevent any incidents of drowning.

Strict action must be taken against illegally operating spa centres in Delhi. Those without licenses must face immediate and strict legal action.

Shortage of teachers in MCD schools must be addressed. Dilapidated school buildings should be inspected and repaired without delay.

Waste collection private concessionaires showing negligence in garbage management must face action and penalty should be imposed under contractual provisions. Timely collection of waste from all areas must be ensured.

*All officials must respond accurately and in a timely manner to issues raised by councillors and take prompt action to resolve them.

MCD community halls to be made available for skill development and vocational training

Chairperson Satya Sharma informed that an important proposal was passed in the meeting under which MCD community halls will be made available for skill development and vocational training.

She further added that MCD has a total of 278 community halls, out of which 122 are either lying vacant or are underutilized. These halls will now be used between 3 PM to 8 PM for imparting employment-oriented training to local youth and women.

She also stated that the meeting witnessed constructive suggestions from councillors, and meaningful discussions brought out practical solutions. The committee unanimously approved proposals that are directly connected with public interest.

Satya Sharma concluded that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is continuously striving to ensure civic amenities and a clean environment. She warned officials that negligence will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken for any kind of laxity on matters concerning public welfare.
