Zero Tolerance for Negligence; No Compromise on Waterlogging: Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh

The Mayor of Delhi, Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, conducted an inspection of the Gokalpur Drain today. On this occasion, the local MLA, Ajay Mahawar; DEMS Committee Chairman Sandeep Kapoor; Councillors Rekha Rani and Preeti Gupta; Additional Commissioner Leeladhar Meghwal; Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Mishra; along with senior officials of the Municipal Corporation were present.

The primary objective of the inspection was to assess the actual status of the ongoing cleaning works in the Gokalpur Drain, review the drainage arrangements, and issue concrete directions for a permanent solution to the long-standing problems of waterlogging and filth in the area. The inspection covered the stretch from Khajuri Chowk Nala to the Fifth Pusta Nala, where the cleaning of drains, removal of silt and garbage, and the flow of water were closely examined.

During the inspection, Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh issued clear instructions to the officials. He stated that any negligence in drain cleaning would no longer be tolerated, and accountability would be fixed for the officers concerned. Cleaning work should not remain confined to paperwork; its impact must be visible on the ground. Every concerned department must ensure time-bound, regular, and quality-based cleaning. Strict action will be taken if any lapse is found at any level. He emphasized that a clean environment is the right of the public and must be ensured under all circumstances.

The Mayor further stated that regular monitoring of drains, scientific removal of silt and garbage, and work strictly in accordance with prescribed standards are the most effective measures to prevent waterlogging. He stressed the need for continuous monitoring and maintaining consistency in the cleaning system. He directed officials to work with utmost vigilance, ensure mutual coordination, and keep all drains completely clean.

MLA Ajay Mahawar said that the problems of waterlogging and sanitation in the Gokalpur area have long been a major concern for local residents. He expressed confidence that proactive efforts by the Municipal Corporation and the administration would provide early relief to the residents and make a permanent solution possible.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi clarified that such inspections, reviews, and strict actions will continue on a regular basis in the future to strengthen cleanliness and drainage systems in the capital.
