GRAP‑1 Implemented in Delhi‑NCR as Air Quality Worsens

In view of rising air pollution in Delhi‑NCR, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has enforced Stage‑1 (GRAP‑1) of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). This decision was taken after the capital’s air quality slipped into the “poor” category.

Under GRAP‑1, several measures will be undertaken to control pollution. These include water sprinkling on roads, dust suppression measures, strict monitoring at construction sites, a ban on open burning of waste, and checks on the use of diesel generators.

The administration has directed concerned departments to take immediate action against pollution‑causing activities. Citizens have also been urged to use public transport more frequently and avoid unnecessary use of private vehicles.

According to experts, changes in weather and low wind speed have contributed to the rise in pollution levels. The situation will continue to be closely monitored in the coming days.
