Holistic Therapies Including Ayurveda, Yoga, Homoeopathy, Unani and Siddha to Address Rising Stress Burden

In view of the rising burden of stress-related illnesses affecting the mental and physical well-being of citizens, the Delhi Government has announced the launch of dedicated AYUSH Stress Management Outpatient Departments (OPDs) across the national capital. These OPDs will offer holistic, culturally acceptable, and evidence-based AYUSH interventions for early detection, treatment, and management of stress-related conditions.

The AYUSH Stress Management OPDs will function at leading AYUSH medical colleges and hospitals, including A&U Tibbia College & Hospital, Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Chaudhary Brahm Prakash Ayurved Charak Sansthan, Dr. B.R. Sur Medical College & Hospital, and existing AYUSH units at IHBAS. Services will be available every Tuesday and Thursday during standard OPD hours.

Under this initiative, citizens will benefit from customized AYUSH therapies such as herbal formulations, homeopathic remedies, Panchakarma, yoga and meditation modules, pranayama, and lifestyle counselling. Structured sessions will focus on reducing anxiety, burnout, sleep disorders, and other psychosomatic conditions while enhancing overall quality of life.

The program will be rolled out in phases, beginning with a pilot phase in five OPDs, followed by expansion to 11 units (one in each district). Collaboration with national research councils and institutions like ICMR will ensure validation of outcomes. Monitoring and evaluation will be based on stress indices, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes.

Speaking on the development, Delhi Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said: "Modern life has made stress one of the most common health challenges, often overlooked until it manifests into serious illness. Through AYUSH Stress Management OPDs, we are offering citizens a holistic, preventive, and accessible solution that integrates India’s traditional systems of medicine with modern healthcare priorities. This initiative will not only reduce the burden on tertiary hospitals but also empower individuals to lead healthier, balanced, and stress-free lives."

The AYUSH Stress Management initiative directly supports the objectives of the National AYUSH Mission (NAM), National Mental Health Programme (NMHP), Fit India Movement, and WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy, ensuring that Delhi becomes a model state for integrative healthcare and wellness
