Luv Kush Ramlila Committee Withdraws Poonam Pandey from Mandodari Role to Honor Public Sentiment

The Luv Kush Ramlila Committee at Delhi’s Red Fort Grounds had recently announced that social media personality and actress Poonam Pandey would play Mandodari in their upcoming Ramlila. This decision sparked considerable backlash from religious leaders, social activists, and political figures across Delhi.

Last week, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, Delhi BJP Media Head, Spokesperson, and Senior Vice President of Luv Kush Ramlila, formally expressed concerns by writing to the Committee President, Arjun Kumar, and General Secretary, Subhash Goel, urging them to reconsider casting Pandey as Mandodari.

The Committee announced they would not be casting Poonam Pandey in the role, acknowledging public sentiment. The BJP spokesperson welcomed this decision.

Kapoor commented, “By withdrawing Poonam Pandey from the role of Mandodari, the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee has shown respect for the religious feelings of both the spiritual community and the wider public.”

He further added, “Luv Kush Ramlila is among Delhi’s leading Ramlila productions. Their efforts to merge traditional storytelling with modern technology have greatly increased interest among young people, and the committee deserves recognition for this achievement.”
