CM Rekha Gupta Visits Flood-Hit Areas of Yamuna Bazar

With the Yamuna River’s rising water level and the risk of flooding, Chief Minister Mrs Rekha Gupta is personally monitoring the entire situation. Today, she once again visited the flood-affected areas to review flood management and control systems. At the flood-hit settlement in Yamuna Bazar, the Chief Minister stepped barefoot into the floodwaters. She interacted with residents affected by the floods and assured them that the government stood firmly with them. The Chief Minister also emphasised that the situation in areas adjoining the Yamuna remains under control.

This morning, the Chief Minister arrived at the settlement in front of the ancient Hanuman Temple in Yamuna Bazar. Senior officials from departments concerned with flood management accompanied her. She first made her way up the steps towards a wall, from where she could see residents on rooftops surrounded by floodwaters, with the Yamuna’s strong current rushing behind. Seeing their plight, the Chief Minister could not hold back. She removed her shoes and stepped barefoot into the floodwaters. No one had expected the Chief Minister to suddenly enter the water herself. Witnessing her wade through the floodwaters, residents too appeared eager to approach her. The Chief Minister enquired after their well-being, reiterating that the government was keeping close watch on the flood situation. She assured them that the Delhi Government had full preparations in place to deal with any emergency and would extend every possible help to those affected. The Chief Minister remained in the flood-hit area for nearly half an hour, speaking to residents while standing in the water.

Chief Minister Mrs Rekha Gupta explained that the Yamuna’s water level had briefly touched close to 206 metres this morning but was now fully under control. She clarified that this settlement lies in the Yamuna’s low-lying floodplain, which is why the water had reached there but had not advanced further. She made it clear that there is no flood-like situation in Delhi. The river had reached its peak rise, and now the water was beginning to recede. She added that the administration was continuously monitoring developments from the control room, noting that the water was flowing out as swiftly as it was coming in.

The Chief Minister further mentioned that the government had requested families in the area to temporarily move to safer locations, though many had chosen to stay back. At present, the situation is being kept under control, and if required, residents would be evacuated to alternative shelters. Expressing confidence, the Chief Minister said that the Yamuna’s water level would now recede rapidly, and residents would not have to face any serious inconvenience.
