Delhi Goes Global: Speaker Vijender Gupta Joins 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Barbados

Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta today arrived in Bridgetown, Barbados to attend the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) 2025. The Conference currently underway will conclude on 12th October 2025 at Bridgetown, Barbados, is organised under the aegis of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA)—one of the oldest and most respected organisations in the Commonwealth, founded in 1911. Hosted under the overarching theme “The Commonwealth – A Global Partner,” the Conference has brought together Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and Members from more than 180 Legislatures across the nine regions of the Commonwealth, to deliberate on strengthening democratic institutions, promoting sustainable development, advancing gender equality, and fostering inclusive governance through dialogue and cooperation.

During the conference , presiding officers and delegates are participating in plenary sessions and thematic workshops on issues of global and legislative importance, including democracy, climate change, digital transformation, good governance, and multilateralism. The deliberations aim to strengthen the capacity of Parliaments to address emerging challenges and reaffirm the Commonwealth’s enduring commitment to cooperative and people-centric governance.

 Speaker Vijender Gupta, will be delivering his remarks during three key workshops of the Conference, namely “Strengthening Our Institutions to Support Democracy,” “Climate Change and Its Threat to Global Health: Finding Sustainable Solutions,” and “National Parliaments vs Provincial, Territorial and Devolved Legislatures: Protecting and Preserving the Separation of Powers.” These sessions, scheduled for 8th and 9th October 2025, form part of the Conference’s core agenda and will witness participation from distinguished presiding officers, lawmakers, and experts from across the Commonwealth.

The participation of the Hon’ble Speaker underscores India’s steadfast commitment to democratic principles, cooperative federalism, and sustainable governance. Representing the Delhi Legislative Assembly at this international forum, Gupta will highlight India’s experience as the world’s largest democracy, where institutional strength, civic participation, and constitutional accountability form the pillars of governance.

The Conference also features sessions of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) and Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD), along with workshops on transparency in parliaments, climate action, and the role of legislatures in international cooperation. The Conference will conclude with the CPA General Assembly and the Parliamentarian of the Year Awards, recognising exceptional contributions to democratic leadership and parliamentary innovation.

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), which unites Parliamentarians irrespective of gender, race, religion, or culture, is driven by the shared ideals of rule of law, individual rights and freedoms, and parliamentary democracy. With over 180 Legislatures (or Branches) divided across nine geographic regions, it provides a vital forum for legislators and parliamentary staff to collaborate, share best practices, and uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity across the Commonwealth.

The participation of the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly at this significant global event reflects India’s deep-rooted democratic ethos and its commitment to strengthening the ideals of transparency, accountability, and participatory governance. His presence at the 68th CPC reaffirms India’s vision of fostering dialogue, promoting inclusive growth, and building global partnerships rooted in shared democratic values and sustainable progress.
