From Ramayana to Ram Rajya: Rekha Gupta Declares Valmiki Jayanti a Public Holiday

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in three key programmes today the Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti Mahotsav at the Delhi Secretariat, the Adikavi Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti Celebration at the NDMC Convention Centre, and a programme in Shalimar Bagh, Haiderpur. On the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Adikavi (the first poet) Maharishi Valmiki, the Chief Minister paid rich tributes to his life and teachings, describing them as timeless beacons of equality, humanity, and collective progress.

The Chief Minister said that through his immortal epic, the Ramayana, Maharishi Valmiki showed society the path of ideals, righteousness, and compassion. His life, she said, symbolizes a just and harmonious society where every section progresses together and every individualтАЩs contribution is valued. Referring to the stories of ShabariтАЩs berries, KevatтАЩs boat, and the squirrelтАЩs effort, she said these episodes remind us that no individual is insignificant, and that every contribution plays a vital role in building a better society.

The events were attended by Delhi Government Cabinet Ministers Ravindra Indraj Singh and Kapil Mishra, NDMC Chairperson Keshav Chandra, Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Chahal, MLAs, and other distinguished dignitaries.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that from now on, Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti will be observed as a public holiday in Delhi every year, allowing citizens to celebrate the festival with full devotion and enthusiasm. She further informed that, for the first time, the Delhi Government has extended support to a large number of organisations to ensure that this yearтАЩs celebrations are held on a historic scale across the capital.

Praising the NDMCтАЩs decision to regularise approximately 4,500 employees, the Chief Minister described it as a progressive step that reinforces the principles of equality, dignity, and social justice. She said that this decision not only safeguards the rights of employees but also provides them with stability and respect in society.

The Chief Minister stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is working in accordance with the mantra тАЬSabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka VishwasтАЭ. She emphasised that the Delhi GovernmentтАЩs goal is to ensure that basic facilities such as education, healthcare, housing, and employment reach the last person in society, so that no citizen is left behind. тАЬDelhiтАЩs progress is possible only when every section of society advances equally,тАЭ she said.

Highlighting the governmentтАЩs vision to establish Delhi as the тАЬCultural Capital of India,тАЭ the Chief Minister said that the city is celebrating all faiths and traditions from Kanwar Yatra and Ramlila to Durga Puja and Valmiki Jayanti with equal respect and grandeur. тАЬIn Delhi today, every religion and every tradition is being honoured equally and this is the true vision of Ram Rajya,тАЭ she said.

Cabinet Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh said that a special initiative has been undertaken this year; the sacred flame of Bhagwan Valmiki has been brought from Punjab and installed at all Ramlila venues across Delhi. тАЬThis sacred flame symbolises unity and harmony, embodying Bhagwan ValmikiтАЩs ideals and a great inspiration for modern society,тАЭ he said. He further added that to realise Prime Minister Narendra ModiтАЩs vision of a Viksit Bharat 2047, the nation must follow the path shown by Maharishi Valmiki one of discipline, values, and service.

Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra said that it is the nationтАЩs good fortune to have the opportunity to understand and advance the rich Sanatani culture. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government has made comprehensive preparations to celebrate Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti in every corner of the capital, ensuring that his message of equality, compassion, and human dignity reaches every citizen.
