India’s first 200 TPD cattle dung-based Biogas Plant is here in Najafgarh!

People in the surrounding rural areas of Delhi have been struggling with the problem of cow dung waste for decades. They throw cow dung waste into drains, which pollutes the drains and subsequently the Yamuna River. Now cow dung is a resource. Through this biogas plant, an agency will collect waste from house in exchange for a proper maintain.

The Nangli Dairy has approximately 13,000 cattle and the Kakrola Dairy has 7,000 cattle, each producing approximately 10 kilograms of dung per day. Thus, the dung waste production at both dairies is approximately 200 metric tons per day. The biogas/CNG produced from this biogas plant will be supplied to IGL through pipelines. The plant will produce approximately 14,000 cubic meters of raw biogas (CNG) per day and 5.6 tons of compressed biogas (purified) per day. Approximately 2.72 acres of land has been allotted for the biogas plant in Nangli Dairy Colony.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “The Nangli Biogas Plant will produce compressed natural gas and fertilizer using cow dung and waste from nearby dairy farms, which flows into the Yamuna through existing drains, thus curbing pollution. This plant consumes 200 metric tons of waste per day.”

Gupta added, “The Nangli Biogas Plant will not only keep the area clean but will also provide the people of the surrounding villages with money for their gau-dhan (cow dung waste). This project will prove to be a milestone in cleaning Mother Yamuna.”

The relevant agency will collect dung waste from dairy owners at a rate of 65 paise per kilogram. The remaining biogas slurry will be used as a natural fertilizer, which helps increase soil fertility. Work on setting up the plant began in December 2018 by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The project was awarded to M/s CEID for design, construction, finance, operation, and transfer.

Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood said today is a historic moment as the people of the Najafgarh area are receiving the gift of the 200 TPD Nangli Biogas Plant. Waste from dairies has become a challenge to people’s health. But today, with the inauguration of this biogas plant, we can say that ‘waste is not a burden, but an asset,’ the Minister stated

Mayor of Delhi, Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said that the BJP government of Delhi is continuously striving to solve Delhi’s garbage problem. In line with this commitment, today the Nangli Biogas Plant is dedicated to the people to help tackle the cow dung waste.

MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat said, “Previous governments did nothing for the welfare of the people; it is only the BJP government that can solve all problems.”

Commissioner Ashwani Kumar informed that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will inaugurate the biogas plant at Ghogha Dairy in a few days and two new biogas plants next year. He said that the best part of this project is that dairy owners can deposit cow dung with the agency in return for reasonable amount (65 paise per kg).
