Mayor of Delhi, Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, has welcomed the concern expressed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court over the increasing incidents of dog bites in institutional areas such as educational institutions, hospitals, bus terminals, and railway stations, as well as the Court’s directive to relocate such dogs to designated shelters.
Mayor stated that the Supreme Court’s observations on the rising incidents of dog bites are timely and in the public interest. The directive to relocate dogs to designated shelters is a humane step that seeks to balance citizen safety with animal welfare. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will extend full cooperation to ensure the effective implementation of these directions.
He further assured that the MCD will enhance coordination with animal welfare organizations and concerned departments to ensure the establishment and proper maintenance of well-equipped shelters across the city. He added that the goal is to keep Delhi a safe, compassionate, and well-organized city, where the welfare of both citizens and animals is ensured.
