To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) organised mass singing programmes across its establishments, including the NDMC Headquarters, site offices, markets, residential colonies, hospitals, dispensaries, and schools this morning.
The main commemorative event was held at Palika Kendra, where the Chairperson, NDMC – Keshav Chandra, led the mass singing near the iconic flag post. All Heads of Departments (HoDs) and hundreds of staff members participated with patriotic enthusiasm, uniting their voices in tribute to the national song that has inspired generations of Indians.

In addition to the central event, over 28,000 students from 45 NDMC schools participated in the Vande Mataram singing at their respective campuses, celebrating the occasion with zeal and reverence.
Thousands Staff members from NDMC’s electrical, civil engineering, horticulture, and public health departments also took part in the vande matram singing ceremonies at their respective work sites, while teams from hospitals, dispensaries, and electric substations joined the celebration with spirited participation.

The sanitation and road divisions along with diffrent NGOs organised special Vande Mataram sessions in various markets and residential areas within the NDMC jurisdiction, further spreading the patriotic fervour among citizens.
To extend the celebration to the wider public, NDMC will also organise a Vande Mataram Musical Evening at Central Park, Connaught Place, this evening. The event aims to raise awareness about the significance of the 150th anniversary and highlight the enduring importance of Vande Mataram in fostering national pride and unity.
The 150 Years of Vande Mataram initiative is a national commemorative movement celebrating the timeless spirit and cultural resonance of India’s national song. Vande Mataram is not merely a melody—it embodies the collective consciousness of the nation and served as a rallying cry for India’s freedom fighters during the struggle for independence.
In October 2025, the Union Cabinet approved countrywide celebrations to mark this historic milestone, encouraging citizens—especially the youth and students—to reconnect with the song’s original, revolutionary essence. Through these celebrations, the legacy of Vande Mataram will continue to inspire patriotism and pride in generations to come.
