Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP) leader and senior municipal councillor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Mukesh Goyal, has expressed concern over the acute shortage of medicines and Class IV employees in MCD hospitals. Raising the issue in the health committee meeting on Thursday, he said that for several months, patients are not getting essential medicines in all the hospitals and dispensaries including MCD’s Swami Dayanand Hospital. Due to shortage of staff in MCD’s largest Hindu Rao Hospital, the attendants of the patients are having to carry the stretchers themselves.
Mukesh Goyal further stated that MCD hospitals are visited by the poor. However, due to the irresponsible attitude of MCD officials, patients and their attendants are forced to run from pillar to post.
According to the information we received, medicines like diabetes medicine тАШTrazentra DuoтАЩ and related heart attack and brain stroke prevention medicine тАШAtoroblocтАЩ are out of stock for the last two-three months. Cholesterol treatment medicine тАШRosusta-10тАЩ, kidney and heart problems in type-2 diabetes medicine тАШJordiansтАЩ, blood pressure and more than 50 other medicines are not in stock in MCD hospitals. Whereas these same medicines were easily available to all patients until three months ago, poor people still come to the hospital, but they face significant difficulties due to the lack of access to medicines.
Mukesh Goyal demanded from Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Kumar and Health Committee Chairman Manish Chaddha that it is the responsibility of MCD to provide health facilities to the poor and general class citizens of Delhi. He said that medicines should be purchased immediately for MCD hospitals and contract employees should be recruited immediately to overcome the shortage of Class IV employees in the hospitals.
