In a swift and alert response, the team of Police Station Nand Nagri apprehended a notorious snatcher red-handed on Monday evening and recovered a stolen mobile phone from his possession, officials said.
The incident occurred around 7:20 pm near the CNG Pump at Theka Market, Nand Nagri, when Head Constable Gaurav Sharma and Constable Pankaj were on routine patrol duty. The officers noticed a man running from the direction of the District Park while members of the public chased him, raising cries of “chor-chor.”
Sensing the gravity of the situation, the police team acted immediately and, with assistance from the public, overpowered and apprehended the suspect. A search of the accused led to the recovery of a mobile phone, suspected to be snatched moments earlier.
During questioning, the apprehended individual identified himself as Mukul alias Mukhi, aged 26, a resident of MCD Flats, Nand Nagri. Shortly thereafter, the complainant, Prince, aged 21 and a resident of Mandoli Extension, reached the spot and informed police that his mobile phone had been snatched while he was travelling in an auto-rickshaw from the Bhopura Border area near Bank Colony Bus Stand. He identified the recovered phone as his own.
Police confirmed that a case bearing FIR No. 82/26 under Sections 304(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at PS Nand Nagri, and the accused has been formally arrested.
Investigations have revealed that Mukul has a criminal history, with involvement in at least seven previous cases related to robbery, attempt to murder and theft. Further investigation is underway to ascertain his involvement in other snatching incidents in the area.
