Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP) leader and senior corporation councilor Mukesh Goyal has expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of malaria, dengue and chikungunya in Delhi. He has demanded from Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and Corporation Commissioner Ashwini Kumar that immediate and concrete steps should be taken to protect the people of Delhi from water and mosquito borne diseases. He said that compared to previous years, this year the highest number of malaria cases have been reported so far. He further said that MCD officials have not performed their responsibilities properly but have issued legal notices to 58,671 Delhiites between January 1 and July 12 for not being able to protect themselves from mosquitoes.
Mukesh Goyal further said that till July 12, a total of 101 cases of malaria, 246 cases of dengue and 17 cases of chikungunya have been reported. So far, breeding of disease-spreading mosquitoes has been found in 71 thousand 86 houses. Whereas during this period, only 26 cases of malaria were reported in 2023, 21 in 2022 and 13 in 2021. Now the rainy season is at its peak, hence, Delhiites may face more troubles in the coming days and their lives may be in danger.
Mukesh Goyal further said that last year in the second week of July only 90 cases of malaria were reported in Delhi, whereas this year this figure has reached 101. In such a situation, it can be easily guessed that the concerned MCD officials have not made any special arrangements to prevent the diseases spreading during the rainy season. The entire focus of MCD officials is on harassing the people of Delhi. MCD officials have not carried out their responsibilities properly. Whereas till now prosecution action has been taken against 10 thousand 426 people and till now Rs 9 lakh 25 thousand 307 has been recovered from them.
