MCD is committed to ensuring a cleaner and safer Delhi and urges citizens to support the efforts by keeping their surroundings clean and avoiding dumping waste into drains. On the other hand Corporation has claimed its significant milestone in its ongoing desilting operations of drains.
As per the data of MCD, From 1 January to 30 June 2025 ,MCD successfully removed 1,70,619.89 metric tonnes (MT) of silt, surpassing the targeted quantity of 1,26,474.27 MT, thus achieving 134.90% of the target.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has achieved a significant milestone in its ongoing desilting operations of major drains (more than 4 feet in width/depth), as part of the monsoon preparedness initiative for the year 2025-26. From 1 January to 30 June 2025, the MCD successfully removed 1,70,619.89 metric tonnes (MT) of silt, surpassing the targeted quantity of 1,26,474.27 MT, thus achieving 134.90% of the target. This marks a considerable improvement over the previous year, where about 78,000 MT of silt was removed in the same period. The current year’s removal is 2.18 times higher than last year’s achievement, demonstrating the corporation’s enhanced focus and efficiency in desilting operations.
A total of 800 nallahs spanning 530.825 km across 12 zones were covered. Notably, the Central Zone led the performance with 61,386.47 MT of silt removed, followed by Najafgarh zone with 24,713.15 MT, Shahdara (North) with 24,152.52 MT, and Shahdara (South) with 23,519. 228 MT .All zones have shown remarkable performance, with many exceeding their individual targets. This renewed thrust on drain cleaning is expected to significantly reduce waterlogging and improve drainage flow across Delhi during the monsoon season.
