Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday laid the foundation stones for new waste processing plants at Okhla, Singhola and Ghazipur, as the city government stepped up efforts to clear legacy waste and prevent the creation of new garbage mountains.
The plants will have a combined processing capacity of 2,900 tonnes per day, including 1,400 TPD at Okhla, 700 TPD at Singhola and 800 TPD at Ghazipur. A separate 300 TPD biogas plant will also be established at Ghazipur for processing biodegradable waste.

Gupta, who inspected the Okhla landfill site, said the government’s focus was not merely on removing the old waste but also on ensuring that freshly generated garbage is scientifically processed before it accumulates.
