A four-storey building collapsed in the New Seemapuri area of northeast Delhi on Wednesday afternoon, triggering a massive rescue operation involving the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, MCD, DDMA and NDRF.
The incident took place around 3.10-3.15 pm near the Idgah Machhli Mandi area. According to police, the collapsed structure was building number E-401, E-Block, New Seemapuri, constructed on a plot measuring around 25 square yards.Police said seven people, including a child aged around three years, have so far been rescued from the affected area.
The rescued persons were taken to hospital for treatment. No casualty has been reported so far, and rescue operations are continuing.The building, reportedly around 20-25 years old, also caused damage to two adjoining structures.
A boundary wall of a nearby mosque was also reported to have collapsed following the impact.According to preliminary local information, several families, including ragpickers, were living in the area.
As per local enquiry,
rohngia/Bangladeshi families (ragpickers) are living in this area and they were collecting plastic, etc. and they caught by building material during collapse of building.
Locals claimed that the building had developed cracks following an earthquake the previous night and that the owner was in the process of vacating it.

These claims are being verified by the authorities.Rescue teams reached the spot shortly after the collapse and began removing debris and searching for anyone who could still be trapped underneath. The NDRF team also joined the operation later.Police said further details are being ascertained and the rescue and relief operation remains underway.
