Seemapuri Tragedy: Old Rohingya-Occupied Building Collapses, 3 Dead, 11 Rescued

An old, unauthorized building in Seemapuri, reportedly occupied by Rohingya families, collapsed for the second day in succession, leaving behind a trail of devastation. Rescue teams have so far pulled out 11 persons from the debris, while three lives have been lost, including a child and a young pregnant woman.

The fact that the building was occupied by Rohingya families has drawn attention to issues of illegal habitation, urban safety, and accountability.

Among the injured shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, Tahirpur, are victims ranging from a 3‑year‑old child to a 56‑year‑old man. The deceased include a 12‑year‑old girl (identity pending), Gulafsa (21, four months pregnant), and another child whose details are yet to be confirmed.

The collapse has sparked panic and outrage in the locality.

DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena confirmed that police have secured the site and are probing all angles — from structural negligence to possible lapses in safety.

  • NDRF, Fire Brigade, MCD teams remain deployed with heavy machinery as rescue and relief operations continue.
  • CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to ascertain the sequence of events.
