To check the incidence of waterlogging during the monsoon and to ensure the comfort and safety of the residents. Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh held an important meeting with senior officials and engineers of the Delhi Jal Board at the Secretariat. The meeting focused on addressing the issues of waterlogging and reviewing monsoon preparedness across the national capital.
Dr. Singh directed that all drains and the drainage system be thoroughly cleaned before the onset of the monsoon using modern hydro jetting machines, automatic desilting machines, and super sucker machines to ensure smooth water discharge and prevent flooding.
The Health Minister emphasized that the Delhi Jal Board and the Health Department must work in close coordination to prevent the outbreak of vector-borne diseases. He instructed officials to identify waterlogging-prone areas and ensure heightened monitoring in those localities.
In Vikaspuri, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh issued strict instructions for the effective cleaning of the drainage system and all small and large drains using advanced equipment such as jetting machines, automatic desilting machines, and super sucker machines.
Dr. Singh further directed officials to immediately repair all damaged pipelines in the Vikaspuri area, restore malfunctioning sewer lines, and cover all open manholes with proper covers before the rainy season begins. He also stressed that ongoing sewer pipeline laying work in wards like Om Vihar and Vidya Vihar must be completed at the earliest to avoid disruption during the rains.
In the review meeting with Delhi Jal Board officials, the Health Minister issued clear instructions to the engineers, stating that any negligence in managing water drainage or failing to maintain sewer systems will not be tolerated. He urged the officials to visit the field themselves, identify water-logging zones, and ensure thorough cleaning of the sewerage network.
Taking cognizance of the issues related to drain and sewer cleaning in Vikaspuri area, Dr. Singh once again stressed that all such cleaning operations be conducted using modern machinery before the monsoon. Currently, several jetting and other advanced machines are deployed in the area, which clean the sewer lines and drains with high-pressure water, thus effectively preventing blockages even during heavy rainfall.
Keeping the monsoon season in mind, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh has instructed that both the Delhi Jal Board and the Health Department must work with mutual coordination to swiftly implement preventive measures. He emphasized that sensitive areas vulnerable to waterlogging should be identified, monitored closely, and maintained with proper sanitation.
The Health Minister assured that the government is already undertaking various initiatives to fix the drainage system before the rains begin. “Our top priority is to ensure that citizens of Delhi are protected not just from waterlogging, but also from the spread of vector-borne diseases during the monsoon season,” he said.
