Landfills reclamation before the 2026 deadline; 13 points agenda discussed in high-Level Review Meeting With CM

A high-level review meeting on Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Delhi was held today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, with Mayor of Delhi, Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh. The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav, LOH, Pravesh wahi, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, Deputy Chairman, Standing Committee, Sundar Singh, MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar, Additional Commissioner Jitender Yadav, Chief Engineer (MCD), and other senior officials of the Government of NCT of Delhi and Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh informed that discussions focused on 13 key agenda points, primarily related to the progress of biomining of legacy waste at the three major landfill sitesтАФGhazipur, Bhalswa, and Okhla. He stated that the Corporation has ramped up biomining from 25,000 TPD to 30,000 TPD as of July 2025, with the target of complete landfill reclamation before the 2026 deadline.
The HonтАЩble Chief Minister emphasised the need to utilise the reclaimed land for public welfare projects such as sports complexes, hospitals, and schools on one-third of the area, while ensuring construction of future-ready waste processing facilities on the remaining reclaimed space.

Highlighting major project advancements, the Mayor shared that environmental clearance has been granted for a 3,000 TPD Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plant at Narela-Bawana. Bids have also been invited for a new WTE plant at Ghazipur, with in-principle approval for Viability Gap Funding (VGF) from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).


Further, a 100 TPD Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant at Ghoga Dairy is set for inauguration on 15th August 2025, marking a major milestone in wet waste processing.

The meeting also highlighted the need to establish additional biogas plants for dairy waste management across Delhi.
These developments reflect the CorporationтАЩs strong commitment to achieving full waste processing capacity within the stipulated timeline and building a cleaner, greener capital city.
