A portion of an old and dilapidated building collapsed in the Kucha Chalan area of Chandni Mahal on Sunday evening, causing debris to fall onto nearby electric wires and resulting in the breaking of an electric pole.
The incident was reported at around 5 PM at House No. 2027, Kucha Chalan. According to police, the building is currently unoccupied, except for two shops operating on the ground floor.
A portion of the staircase from the top floor fell onto the staircase of the first floor. The debris subsequently landed on nearby electricity wires, putting additional load on them and causing an adjoining electric pole to break. The wires then came down.
Following the information, the SHO of PS Chandni Mahal, along with SI Dileep, the Emergency Officer and beat staff, reached the spot and assessed the situation.
BSES personnel and Fire Brigade teams were immediately called in, while the affected area was cordoned off and people were moved away from the site as a precautionary measure.
Repair and restoration work is currently underway. Police personnel have been deployed at the spot and are assisting the concerned agencies in maintaining public safety.
No injury or casualty has been reported. The situation is presently under control.
