NDMC’s Unique way to reinforce Swachhta Movement across the New Delhi area throughout the Independence Month.

In the spirit of patriotism and civic pride, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has announced a month-long celebration of Independence Day 2025 with the central theme “Swachhta se Swatantrata tak ” from 1st to 31st August 2025. NDMC’s this comprehensive initiative aims to foster a sense of national responsibility, environmental stewardship, and citizen engagement across all sectors of society.

NDMC’s Swachhta Campaign on the occasion of Independence Day, is designed to promote cleanliness, community participation, and national pride through a wide array of activities across departments, schools, neighborhoods, public spaces, and digital platforms.

Key Objectives of the NDMC’s Swachhta Campaign are to commemorate India’s Independence through actions that reflect civic responsibility, instill a strong sense of ownership among citizens toward a cleaner and greener New Delhi and promote behavioral change through participatory and creative initiatives.

The Major Components of the ‘Swachhta se Swatantrata tak’ Campaign are Swachhta Drives , Awareness Campaign, Cultural & Community Events, Beautification Drives and Recognition & Felicitations of the Swachhta warriors as Heros.

The activities in all components of NDMC’s Swachhta Campaign include Intensive cleaning operations in schools, markets, colonies, offices, and religious places. Awareness Campaigns – Information, Education & Communication (IEC) through rallies, posters, social media, and street plays.

Cultural & Community Events in which Exhibitions, essay contests, plogging drives, “Clean My City” marches, and community pledges are included for the campaign. Beautification Drives through – Plantation under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, graffiti competitions, and wall art installations are outreach activities of the campaign.The Swachhta Campaign also included the Recognition & Felicitations of the Swachhta Heros by Honoring sanitation workers, best-performing schools, green champions, and standout initiatives.

To mark the month-long celebrations of Independence Day with the theme “Swachhta se Swatantrata Tak”, a comprehensive calendar of events and activities has been meticulously prepared. Each department has been assigned specific responsibilities, ensuring their active participation in promoting the spirit of cleanliness and freedom. These activities will be executed under the close coordination of Heads of Departments and designated Zonal Officers, reinforcing the Swachhta Movement across the New Delhi area throughout the Independence Month.

Health Department of NDMC will hold the Cleanliness drives in high-footfall areas like religious sites and JJ clusters through Engagement with RWAs and MTAs along with NGOs for plogging drives in which focus on the Promotion of SUP alternatives and “Swachhta Pledge” selfie stations will be the key points. The Health Department will organise the Felicitation program for star sanitation workers.

NDMC Civil Engineering Department will carry out the Deep cleaning of lakes, restoration of monuments, wall paintings, and flyover beautification. Drain cleaning, pavement repairs, and graffiti competitions and Support inclusive sanitation and Divyang-friendly infrastructure.

The Education Department of the 42 schools in which 28,000 students will hold the responsibility of “Each One Clean One” campaign for every school will adopt and maintain a nearby area. School competitions, clean campus drives, plogging drills, and awareness activities will also be organised. Data sharing through centralized Google Sheets and Drive links for before-after documentation should prepare every school. Celebrating International Youth Day with special initiatives will also be held by the education department.

Public Relations Department will create the awareness campaign during the one month long swachhta se swatantra tak celebration through Dynamic outreach through “Selfie Sang Sankalp” and “Swachhta Warriors” stories. Mass awareness using LED displays, FM radio, newspapers, and influencers would be carried out . Felicitation events and multimedia promotion will be the main feature of the components of publicity. A Patriotic movie screening on 13th August for NDMC staff and a public projection of a film on the Independence movement at Regal Building on 14th August will be organised by the PR Department.

On the other hand, NDMC’s IT Department will amplify the campaign messages and visual documentation through NDMC’s website and social media as outreaching the people of all walks of life.

The Medical Services Department of NDMC will play a vital role in the organization of Cleanliness campaigns in hospitals and dispensaries. Participation in public marches, pledges, and engagement are other activities to be conducted by the hospitals and dispensaries.

Public Health & Education Departments with NGOs would organise the Flash mobs, zero-waste colony initiatives, and creative campaigns using waste materials. Joint plogging and pledge drives in crowded areas will also be part of the campaign.

The Horticulture Department will hold the Plantation drives with community participation and Distribution of eco-friendly giveaways and beautification of public areas. While the Training Department will organise  the Workshops for youth on circular economy and waste-to-wealth models, in collaboration with institutes like TERI and CII.

NDMC Enforcement Department will carry out the anti encroachment drive to reclaim the public places for free pedestrian movement. The enforcement department also organises the activities for Wall defacement prevention and removal of unauthorized posters/banners from the public places in the New Delhi area.

All Departments of NDMC should provide the Prompt resolution of public grievances with strict SLA adherence with the target of No complaint to be left unattended during the drive.      

The General Administration Department would implement the twin-bin systems in all NDMC offices at Palika Kendra. While the Civil engineering wing of Building Maintenance should Ensure source segregation of waste across all NDMC buildings.

All 14 Nodal Officers of NDMC should ensure Identification and transformation of target of campaign to cleanliness zones with clear documentation.

NDMC urges all citizens, residents’ associations, market traders, students, and institutions to actively participate and take ownership in this unique celebration of freedom through cleanliness. Together, let us uphold the spirit of “Swachh Bharat” and make New Delhi a shining example of collective responsibility and national pride.
