Anand Vihar is one of the major pollution hotspot areas among Delhi’s 13 identified hotspots. In addition, the Patparganj Air Quality Index (AQI) Station and Shakarpur Ward are also among the 39 AQI stations across the capital. Over the past few days, the air quality index levels at these stations have been recorded above 400.
In this context, an inter-departmental coordination meeting was convened to review the progress of works assigned to various departments such as the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC), Indian Railways, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), Delhi Police, Transport Department, and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The meeting was chaired Mr. Badal Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Shahdara South Zone, who has been designated as the Nodal Officer for Anand Vihar Hotspot.
During the meeting, key decisions and progress reports were discussed. It was informed that the road reconstruction work near the AQI station at Anand Vihar Bus Terminal is in its final stage. Additionally, the Railway Department is carrying out Champa tree plantation and grass-laying work on vacant land near the railway’s Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), which is expected to be completed within a week.
Further, in the Patparganj Industrial Area, road reconstruction work is being carried out at a fast pace by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC). Officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Public Works Department (PWD) informed that sprinkler machines and anti-smog guns are operating regularly in designated shifts. Moreover, joint teams of the Delhi Police and MCD are conducting regular drives to remove temporary encroachments.
The meeting also highlighted that the Transport Department and Traffic Police are taking strict action against illegally parked buses and cars. A total of 6,330 challans have been issued between 1 October 2025 and 11 November 2025, including 4380 challans by the Transport Department and 1,952 by the Traffic Police.
Regarding pollution control measures at the Patparganj AQI Station, officials from the Mother Dairy Plant, Shakarpur informed that sprinkler operations are being carried out from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM and again from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Mother Dairy also reported that all trees within their premises have been cleaned.
Additionally, Mayur Vihar Traffic Police informed that regular challan drives are being conducted against illegally parked vehicles.
The Deputy Commissioner of Shahdara South, Badal Kumar, directed all departments to maintain vigilant monitoring of pollution control measures, prioritize the completion of pending works, and play an active role in reducing pollution levels through coordinated efforts.
