AQI (Air Quality Index) in the Capital crossed 400, the Supreme Court directed the Delhi Government to implement Graph-IV restrictions to control pollution in Delhi NCR while only two days ago, the Rekha Gupta Government had implemented Graph-3 which had been breached than complied with. on Wednesday, the PM10 level stood at 395.2 and PM 2.5 at 246.2 micrograms per cubic metre, which is four times higher than the fixed standard.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav said the Supreme Court’s concern over pollution in Delhi has proved that the BJP government in Delhi has only been making statements instead of taking effective steps to check air pollution. that merely announcing Grap-1, Grap-2 or Grap-3 would not mitigate the suffering of the people unless Government takes definitive steps to find a permanent solution to the toxic air crisis. He said that though the Government has announced Grap-3 restrictions, it has totally failed in its effective implementation, as the rules are being violated than complied with.
Yadav claimed that he has sought a reply from the Punjab and Haryana State governments on the steps taken by them to control stubble burning as the alarming rise in air pollution in Delhi was also on account of stubble burning by these two states. He said it was disturbing that that the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP seem to indulge in shadow boxing to mislead the people on rising pollution without bothering implement strong steps to stop stubble burning. He said that it was a matter of grave concern to the health of the people
Central Government’s advisory to set up Chest Clinics in hospitals is worrisome as it exposes the Government’s failure to control the poisonous air. He said that when the Central Government is concerned about the rising pollution, then why are the State Governments not taking positive action on pollution control?
Devender Yadav said that the Rekha Gupta government is playing with the health of the people by issuing false reports on pollution data. He said that the Supreme Court also took note of the false AQI data at air monitoring stations and sought a response from the Central Pollution Control Board. He said that the negligence on the part of the government at a time when the AQI in most areas of Delhi has reached severe levels beyond 400 shows its complete insensitivity towards the health of the people.
