A large-scale demolition drive is underway in the Yamuna Bazar area near Nigambodh Ghat, where authorities have been carrying out bulldozer action for several hours. Heavy deployment of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces has been made in and around the area to maintain law and order during the operation.
Police have erected barricades around Yamuna Bazar and restricted movement in the vicinity as the demolition exercise continues. According to residents, they were directed by the administration to vacate their homes by Wednesday night.
Locals claim that more than 310 houses are located in the settlement. Residents say notices to vacate have been issued on multiple occasions in the past.

According to official notices, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on June 2 issued an eviction notice under the directions of the High Court, asking residents to vacate the area by June 23. A public notice also stated that action would commence from June 24 onwards.

Earlier, on May 13, a notice was served under the Disaster Management Act directing residents of Yamuna Bazar to vacate the area.
The demolition drive is continuing amid tight security arrangements, while affected residents remain concerned about their rehabilitation and relocation.

Meanwhile, Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the move and wrote:
“The High Court’s order regarding colonies in the Yamuna floodplain has once again exposed the claims made by both the BJP and the Delhi government.
From the Chief Minister to Members of Parliament, leaders have repeatedly stated from public platforms that ‘these colonies will be given relief, not a single brick will be touched, and no one will be displaced.’ However, the reality today is that lakhs of people are facing the threat of homelessness.
The lives, livelihoods, and future of lakhs of people living in the colonies and villages along the Yamuna are at stake. The time has come for the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Delhi to present a concrete rehabilitation plan for the affected families.”
As per official of DDA demolished areas are under O Zone
