Delhi Municipal Corporation Presents Historic ₹17,583 Crore Budget

Leader of the House in the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD), Shri Pravesh Wahi, presented the revised estimates for 2025-26 and finalized the budget for 2026-27 in the corporation’s assembly today. Marking a milestone in MCD’s history, this year’s budget—amounting to nearly ₹17,583 crore—was passed with a strong emphasis on public welfare, infrastructure, and environmental management.

The budget reflects MCD’s commitment to citizen-centric governance—balancing tax relief, infrastructure upgrades, environmental priorities, and social welfare schemes. Shri Pravesh Wahi emphasized that the corporation is determined to deliver transparency, equity, and tangible benefits to Delhi’s residents.

Key Announcements

  • Tax Relief for Villages: Residents of 49 fully rural-designated villages with ancestral homes up to 500 meters are exempted from house tax. In urbanized villages, property tax is waived for homes up to 200 meters.
  • Housing Societies Benefit: Group housing societies will receive a 15% property tax rebate for timely payments, reinstating a benefit previously discontinued.
  • Ward-Level Support: Each ward’s 20 RWAs will be granted ₹25,000 for repair and maintenance, subject to councillor and junior engineer approval.
  • Equal Pay for MTS Workers: Around 4,000 Multi-Tasking Staff will gain equal pay benefits, with each worker receiving approximately ₹9,000 more per month.
  • Landfill Eradication: Bhalswa and Okhla landfill sites will be eliminated by end-2026, while Ghazipur landfill will be cleared by end-2027.
  • Regularization of Workers: 375 daily-wage beldars employed between 2006–2012 will be regularized.
  • Healthcare Expansion: 250 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will be established with Delhi government’s support.
  • Youth Employment: New parking lots accommodating 100 vehicles will be allotted to unemployed graduates via lottery-based tenders.
  • Women & Disabled Welfare: Each ward will provide ₹21,000 to 15 widows, single mothers, or disabled women for their daughters’ marriages. Additionally, 10 sewing machines and 10 bicycles will be distributed per ward.
  • Education Infrastructure: ₹22 crore allocated for school repairs, with an additional ₹10 crore earmarked for upcoming year renovations.
  • Councillors’ Allowance: Meeting allowance for councillors raised to ₹3,000 per session, pending Delhi government and Lt. Governor’s approval.
  • Cashless Medical Care: For the first time, MCD employees and councillors will receive cashless treatment at panel hospitals at CGHS rates. Pensioners outside Delhi will also access CGHS facilities nationwide.
