Municipal Corporation of Delhi working in collaboration with IDBI Bank today transferred ₹109 crore directly to the accounts of students studying in Municipal Corporation schools through DBT for uniforms and stationery.
Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said that facilities in Municipal Corporation schools are not less than those in private schools and the teachers in MCD schools are more qualified. Teachers working in MCD schools are recruited through competitive examinations resulting in excellent teachers. He added that 60% of students in leading medical and engineering colleges are from government schools. Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh urged teachers to diligently impart their acquired knowledge to students. He stated that municipal school teachers are performing well but there is room for improvement.
Mayor cited the example of investing 10 rupees in a good cause and God gives 100 rupees in return. Similarly children are manifestations of God and the day you see God in children, you and your family will be transformed. He added that the better you teach your class students, the better your own children will learn. Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said that teachers are like gods, and what a teacher can give to children cannot be given by society or their parents. Praising the MCD Commissioner the Mayor said that his arrival has enhanced the dignity of the position, as even the chair is desired to be occupied by a good person.
Municipal schools attract children from the lowest strata of society and we expect teachers to work hard to educate these children and do justice with their education. The Mayor thanked IDBI Bank for providing 104 smart boards at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore to the MCD schools and asked the bank officials to make a provision of at least Rs 10 crore in this regard.

Yogesh Verma, Chairman Education Committee said that on the occasion of the birthday of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi we have directly transferred money to the accounts of children studying in MCD schools. He stated that this entire work is done in view of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a paperless process, transferring money directly to the beneficiaries’ accounts without any middlemen. He thanked all the officials for this effort. Shri Yogesh Verma stated that a teacher is a craftsman who shapes a child’s future and teaching young children diligently is a difficult task. And these children later go on to achieve high positions.
This year we decided to celebrate Teacher’s Day a little differently. We decided to celebrate Teacher’s Day at the zonal level by inviting alumni from MCD schools. He added that when we looked at the alumni we discovered that students from MCD schools hold high positions such as IAS, IPS, doctors, and engineers. When these IAS and IPS officers honored their teachers it was an emotional moment for everyone and everyone’s eyes were moist.
Yogesh Verma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that for the advancement of our country and to achieve the goal of developed India by 2047 we must raise the level of education. Shri Yogesh Verma said that teaching is not just a job but also a service and unless it is done with true spirit this work will not be successful. Shri Yogesh Verma told the teachers that we are here to solve all your problems but you also have the same responsibility to work for the children. He said that IDBI Bank has provided 104 smart boards to the MCD schools of which 60 boards have been installed and 44 more will be installed in the schools in the coming days. He added that IDBI Bank has promised to provide 100 smart boards to the MCD schools every quarter.
Verma also highlighted the shortage of sanitation workers in municipal schools and urged the Commissioner to address this issue. He advised the principals present that the number of students in their schools should increase. He urged them to assign two teachers to survey the surrounding areas on Saturdays and bring children excluded from mainstream education back to school. He stated that the teacher who enrolls the most children will be nominated for Municipal award. He also stated that we are considering raising financial powers of principals from ₹3,000 per month to ₹10,000 per month.
Ashwani Kumar Commissioner MCD, said that the gift of education is the greatest gift and there can be no greater gift. He added that no one can achieve what a teacher can. Ashwani Kumar stated that teachers hold the key to children’s destiny by taking them from one place to another. He added that teachers deserve all the credit for whatever position we hold and whatever work we perform. He added that the foundation laid by primary teachers is unparalleled and it is during primary stage that students’ character is formed and they gain courage. Shri Ashwani Kumar stated that watching the programs presented by the students of the MCD schools reveals the hard work teachers have put in. He urged teachers to teach with dedication and take children to the next level. Shri Ashwani Kumar urged teachers to pay special attention to cleanliness in the schools so that the MCD schools shine. He urged them to plant as many trees as possible in the school premises and increase greenery.
Amit Kharkhari, Deputy Chairman Education Committee thanked Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh by saying that hon’ble Mayor is a simple person who offers simple solutions to even the most difficult problems. There is a shortage of security guards, nursery attendants, and school attendants in the schools and efforts are being made to address the issue.
