At the annual function of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), University of Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta shared her student life memories in a deeply emotional manner. On this occasion, she recalled how her college days remain the golden chapters of her life and continue to inspire her even today.
The Chief Minister said that whenever she returns to the university campus, the gap of age and position disappears, and her student days come alive once again. Smiling, she recalled that in 1993 she wished to secure admission in SRCC but could not because of the high cut-off percentage. She added, “Perhaps I had to become Chief Minister to come here.”
Reminiscing about her college life, she said that canteen conversations with friends, light-hearted quarrels in classrooms, excuses to skip lectures, studying through the night before exams, and strolling with friends in Kamla Nagar are still an inseparable part of her memories.
The Chief Minister also shared a poignant incident from her student politics days. She recounted that when she was President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), her face was badly burnt in an accident during a protest. For almost one and a half months she had to endure difficulties, with both pain and challenges, but she never gave up. “College life taught me that hardships cannot stop us. We must keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles,” she said.
Mrs Rekha Gupta further emphasised that college life is the time when friendships, bonds and memories last for a lifetime. “The library, canteen conversations, interactions with professors, and moments spent with classmates are my true wealth. These experiences guided me towards leadership and today continue to inspire me to serve the nation and society,” she said.
Encouraging the students present at the ceremony, the Chief Minister advised them not to see college life merely as memories of the past but as experiences that help chart the path ahead. She added, “Every experience of your life, whether small or big, shapes your journey forward. The lessons learnt during student life give you the courage to lead, to remain sensitive, and to fulfil your responsibilities towards society.”
