In a major step towards improving last-mile connectivity and ensuring safer and more reliable transport options in South Delhi, the Rekha-Gupta–led Delhi Government has approved the extension of Devi Bus Route 7701A from its existing terminal at South Asian University to AIIMS–CAPFIMS (Central Armed Police Forces Institute of Medical Sciences), Maidan Garhi. The decision follows a request from the Chief of AIIMS–CAPFIMS, Maidan Garhi, who highlighted the need for dependable connectivity between the metro network and the institute to address staff safety concerns, particularly during early morning and evening hours.
At present, Devi Route 7701A operates between Chhattarpur Metro Station and South Asian University with four trips in each shift. With the approved extension, the service will continue along the same corridor up to AIIMS–CAPFIMS, for which a new terminal fare stage has been added. The extended service will operate from Chhattarpur Metro Station via Chhattarpur Mandir, Chhattarpur Village, Chhattarpur Extension, Nanda Hospital, Satbari Crossing and South Asian University before reaching AIIMS–CAPFIMS in the Up direction, and vice versa in the down direction. This extension increases the total trip length by approximately 1.5 kilometres in each direction.
The existing pattern of four morning and four evening trips in each direction will remain unchanged even after the extension. Departures from Chhattarpur Metro Station to AIIMS–CAPFIMS will continue to be around 08:30, 09:00, 09:30 and 10:00 hours in the morning and 16:00, 16:30, 17:00 and 17:30 hours in the evening. Similarly, return trips from AIIMS–CAPFIMS to Chhattarpur Metro Station will take place around 09:00, 09:30, 10:00 and 10:30 hours in the morning and 16:30, 17:00, 17:30 and 18:00 hours in the evening.
The extension is expected to significantly improve mobility for staff, students, patients and visitors by providing direct, reliable and affordable last-mile connectivity from the metro station to AIIMS–CAPFIMS. It will reduce dependence on informal transport modes and eliminate the need for commuters to walk along the hilly stretch leading to the institute. The move enhances safety and comfort during early and late hours, supports better utilisation of the existing Devi fleet and strengthens the integration of the public bus network with major educational and medical institutions in the Chhattarpur–Maidan Garhi belt. It also aligns with the Delhi Government’s broader emphasis on route rationalisation and improved multimodal connectivity across the city.
Speaking on the development, Delhi Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said: “The Delhi Government under the able leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta remains committed to providing safe, reliable and efficient connectivity to all citizens. The extension of Route 7701A to AIIMS–CAPFIMS is another milestone in our ongoing route rationalisation initiative, ensuring that public transport reaches areas where it is needed the most. This move will significantly improve last-mile access for staff, students and patients, while enhancing the overall public transport experience in the Chhattarpur–Maidan Garhi region.”
