Dance, Music, and Kites: Delhi’s Cultural Carnival; 27,000 Visitors Celebrate Culture at Baansera

Delhi’s Yamuna riverbank at Baansera transformed into a kaleidoscope of colors and culture from January 16–18, 2026, as the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) successfully hosted the 3rd International Kite Festival under the guidance of Lt Governor V. K. Saxena. The event, inaugurated by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah in the presence of the Lt Governor and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, marked a milestone in the capital’s cultural calendar, drawing an estimated 27,000 visitors—more than double last year’s turnout.

The overwhelming turnout reaffirmed the festival’s place as a signature cultural event in Delhi. With footfall doubling from the previous year, the festival is fast emerging as a must-attend attraction on the capital’s event calendar.

Officials emphasized that such initiatives by DDA are aimed at promoting cultural heritage, fostering public engagement, and creating inclusive recreational spaces. The success of the festival stands as a testament to Delhi’s vibrant cultural spirit and the public’s deep connection with traditional celebrations.

Family-Friendly Attractions

The festival was designed to engage all age groups:

  • Children’s play zones and camel rides.
  • A vibrant Patang Bazaar selling colorful kites and accessories.
  • Food stalls offering a wide variety of cuisines, turning the venue into a carnival of flavors.

Families from across Delhi participated enthusiastically, making kite flying not just a sport but a shared cultural experience.

A Festival of Skies and Sounds

Running parallel to the kite extravaganza, the 11th International Dance & Music Festival organized by ICCR added rhythm and resonance to the celebrations. Together, the twin festivals showcased Delhi’s growing appetite for cultural events that blend tradition with recreation.

  • Kite Parade: Professional kitists from India and abroad painted the skies with dazzling displays.
  • Cultural Showcase: International and national dance troupes enthralled audiences with performances ranging from classical Indian forms to contemporary global acts.
  • Exhibition: A dedicated kite exhibition traced the evolution of kite flying, drawing enthusiasts and historians alike.
