With the monsoon season approaching, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its preparedness measures. MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar on Thursday inspected Adarsh Nagar ward in the Civil Lines Zone to review drain desilting, sanitation arrangements and flood mitigation works.

Expressing concern over onion and garlic peels being dumped into drains after sorting, Khirwar instructed officials to take strict action against violators and ensure the immediate removal of accumulated waste to prevent blockages.

The Commissioner also expressed displeasure over garbage scattered along the main road near Adarsh Nagar Metro Station. He directed officials to install additional dustbins in the area, ensuring they do not obstruct traffic movement, and stressed that major roads should remain free of garbage.As part of the inspection, Khirwar visited the PWD pumping station at Jahangirpuri H-Block and reviewed the condition of the drain on Shah Alam Bandh Road.

He also inspected ongoing desilting work near Majlis Park Metro Station and Jahangirpuri G-Block, directing officials to complete the work on priority and remove excavated silt without delay.
To strengthen flood preparedness, the Commissioner also reviewed the action plan for setting up an additional pumping station in Adarsh Nagar to address waterlogging during the monsoon.The inspection forms part of MCD’s ongoing efforts to improve drainage infrastructure, sanitation and emergency preparedness ahead of the rainy season.
The inspection was attended by Adarsh Nagar MLA Raj Kumar Bhatia, Councillor Mukesh Goel, Civil Lines Zone Deputy Commissioner Shashi Pratap Singh, Engineer-in-Chief P.C. Meena, senior MCD officials and representatives from the Public Works Department (PWD).During the visit, the Commissioner directed PWD officials to expedite the desilting of drains near Adarsh Nagar Metro Station to ensure smooth drainage during heavy rainfall. He also ordered action against shops allegedly operating on illegal licences in the Murga Mandi near the metro station.
