Swift Police Action Foils Mobile Snatching in East Delhi, Accused Arrested Within Days

In a prompt and well-coordinated operation, the East District Police have arrested a mobile phone snatcher involved in a recent street crime near Anand Vihar, underlining the district’s intensified drive against snatching and other public-place offences.
The arrest was made by the staff of Police Station Patparganj Industrial Area following sustained investigation that combined CCTV surveillance, technical analysis, and ground-level intelligence. The stolen mobile phone has also been successfully recovered.


Incident Near Anand Vihar
The incident occurred on January 21, 2026, when the complainant was walking towards Anand Vihar to board an e-rickshaw. While speaking on his mobile phone, an unidentified individual approached from behind, forcibly snatched the device, and fled towards Telco T-Point, creating panic in the busy area.


Acting swiftly on the complaint, police registered FIR No. 38/26 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and immediately initiated the investigation.

CCTV Footage and Technical Inputs Crack the Case
Recognising the seriousness of the offence and its impact on public safety, a special team was constituted under the supervision of ACP Madhu Vihar and led by the SHO, PS Patparganj Industrial Area. The team, comprising HC Rahul Panwar and Ct. Chanderbhan, carried out an extensive scan of CCTV cameras installed along possible escape routes.


Parallel technical surveillance and local intelligence inputs were activated. A secret informer, after reviewing CCTV visuals, identified the suspect. Acting on the credible information, the police team apprehended the accused, leading to the recovery of the snatched mobile phone during interrogation.

Accused Profile
The arrested accused has been identified as Zaid (23), a resident of Sanjay Camp, Trilokpuri. Police revealed that the accused does not have a permanent residence and often sleeps at a temple in Trilokpuri. He is educated up to Class 9 and was previously working as a battery-rickshaw driver.
During questioning, the accused admitted to substance abuse and was found to be previously involved in one criminal case. Further investigation is underway to determine his possible involvement in other snatching incidents in the area.

Senior police officials stated that such swift action sends a clear message that street crimes will be dealt with firmly. The East District Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of commuters and urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity.
