Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav said that while the overflowing Yamuna waters have created havoc in the flood plains of the river displacing thousands of people from their homes to temporary shelters without basic facilities for their daily existence, the extensive rains have rendered many potholed roads across the city slushy and filled with rain and drain waters to pose danger to the lives of motorists and pedestrians as several accidents have occurred in the past few days to expose the total failure of BJP’s Rekha Gupta Government to do any worthwhile work over the past seven months. He said that the Rekha Gupta Government has only misled the people with false promises without doing any work to restore the Capital’s dilapidated civic infrastructure.
On June 25, 2025 Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) claimed to have set a “world record” by repairing 3,433 potholes in a single day across 1400km of roads–33 more than the target it had set for itself—but this lie was exposed during the recent rains as the patchwork sham jobs done on a few potholed roads sunk deeper to expose the lies of the BJP Government. He said that the shoddy workmanship of the PWD, which was in a deep slumber for over 11 years when the Aam Aadmi Party was in power, only did some cosmetic jobs on some potholes which crumbled when rains lashed the city. He said that PWD Minister Parvesh Verma had then said that “This wasn’t just a pothole repair mission — it was a commitment to end the cycle of delays and excuses. Every pothole filled was a message that delivery is possible when the intent is honest.”, but unfortunately neither the intent was honest nor the delivery effective.
Devender Yadav said that the inaction and inefficiency of the BJP Government came to the fore, which could not be hiddent from the public view, as the Yamuna swelled to displace thousands of people, and water-logged and potholed and sunken roads caused traffic hazards to the commutes as the Rekha Government has so far only made empty promises without doing any meaningful work.
Residents of many colonies have been complaining that no repair works of main roads or colony roads had been carried out for the past many years causing accidents, many of them fatal, on a daily basis, but neither the Kejriwal Government gave any heed to the complaints of the residents nor the present BJP Government. to repair the broken roads, other than making loud claims, which were untruthful.
