Delhi’s Grand Chhath Revival: CM Rekha Gupta Announces Historic Riverbank Celebrations

In a landmark move to honour tradition and embrace community spirit, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that this year’s Chhath Puja will be celebrated on both banks of the Yamuna River—from Palla in the north to Okhla in the south. With over 929 designated sites across Delhi, the government is pulling out all stops to ensure a safe, clean, and spiritually uplifting experience for devotees.

From Palla to Okhla: Yamuna Ghats to Shine

CM Gupta has directed officials to upgrade traditional ghats like ITO and Okhla, and prepare every stretch of the Yamuna for Chhath rituals. Special lighting, dust control measures, and medical facilities will be in place. The Irrigation Department has been tasked with clearing water hyacinth to ensure clean waters for worship.

No Immersion, Only Worship

In a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, CM Gupta clarified that immersion in the Yamuna is prohibited and not part of Chhath rituals. The focus is on eco-friendly celebration, with full support from police, traffic authorities, and civic departments.

 929 Sites, One Spirit

Beyond the Yamuna, Chhath Puja will be held at Munak Canal, Mungeshpur Drain, and artificial ponds across Delhi. The government will provide uninterrupted support, including fast-track NOCs for institutions and real-time inspections by the Chief Minister herself.

A Festival of Faith, Nature, and Community

“Chhath is a sacred expression of Purvanchal culture and devotion,” said CM Rekha Gupta. “Our government is committed to making this celebration safe, grand, and inclusive. It’s a reminder of our bond with nature and our duty to keep it clean.”
