#DelhiTransportUpdate: No Shortage of Buses in Delhi, Public Transport Operating Smoothly: Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh

In reference with some media reports regarding bus availability and operational issues in Delhi, it is clarified that the Transport Department has been taking proactive and sustained measures to enhance commuter convenience and optimise fleet utilisation.

There is no shortage of buses in Delhi, and commuters are advised not to panic. While minor inconvenience may have been experienced by some passengers during the festive season due to increased travel demand, bus operations have remained active across all routes, with special focus on route coverage and frequency improvements.

The Transport Department continues to work diligently to reduce passenger waiting time and ensure efficient service across the National Capital Territory. Major initiatives currently underway include:

A comprehensive rescheduling of routes is being implemented based on a detailed analysis conducted by IIT Delhi, aligning services with commuter demand and minimising waiting time, as directed by the HonтАЩble Transport Minister. 9-meter electric тАШDEViтАЩ buses are being deployed on existing 12-meter routes to fill operational gaps left by phased-out CNG buses. This measure has strengthened route coverage, especially in peripheral and residential areas.

Transport DepartmentтАЩs active fleet currently stands at around 4,000 buses, comprising CNG buses, large electric buses, and DEVi 9-meter electric buses. These buses collectively serve 426 city routes, 12 NCR routes, and 70 DEVi routes, operating as per the revised plan prepared by IIT Delhi. The number of buses will further increase to 7,000 by next year, further strengthening DTCтАЩs operational capacity and service coverage across Delhi and the NCR.

The Transport Department has ensured that no route has been discontinued, and services to rural and outlying zones continue to operate smoothly, ensuring that no commuter is left stranded.

Construction of new Bus Queue Shelters (BQS) is being undertaken by DTIDCL, and the matter referenced in the media report has been forwarded to DTIDCL for necessary action.
With respect to the specific routes mentioned in the report, the Transport Department clarifies that operations are active and running smoothly.

Currently, buses operate on the following routes: Route 85 (Anand Vihar ISBT to Punjabi Bagh Terminal), Route 306 (Nehru Place Terminal to Kalyan Puri), Route 347 (Kashmere Gate City Terminal to Noida Sector 34/51), Route 502 (Kashmere Gate City Bus Terminal to Mehrauli Terminal), Route 534 (Anand Vihar ISBT to Mehrauli Terminal), Route 540 (Kendriya Terminal to Tara Apartment, GK-II), Route 723 (Manglapuri Terminal to Anand Vihar ISBT), Route 729 (Mori Gate Terminal to Kapashera Border), Route 740 and its extended route (Anand Vihar ISBT to Uttam Nagar Terminal), Route 764 (Jharoda Kalan BorderтАУSatyam Puram to Nehru Place Terminal), and Route 100A (Kendriya Terminal to Badli Railway Station).

Additionally, routes 727, 850, and RL-77 are being operated under the Cluster Bus Scheme, ensuring uninterrupted service continuity across regions.

The Delhi Transport Department, under the guidance of the CM Rekha Gupta-led Government, remains committed to providing a safe, reliable, and environmentally sustainable public transport system. Continuous efforts are being made to strengthen bus operations, deploy additional electric buses, and streamline routes across the city to ensure commuter comfort and operational efficiency.

Reacting to the development, Transport Minister, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, said, тАЬThere is absolutely no shortage of buses in Delhi. The DTC and Cluster services are operating across all routes, ensuring no commuter faces inconvenience. The Rekha Gupta-led government is fully committed to providing smooth, eco-friendly, and efficient transport services. Minor festive rush cannot be misconstrued as a systemic issue тАФ we are continuously upgrading our fleet, rationalising routes, and improving service frequency for the people of Delhi.тАЭ
