#CivicCrisis: Rama Vihar’s waterlogged lanes and rising garbage mounds have turned into death traps. Who answers for this loss?

A six-year-old girl lost her life in the waterlogged streets of Rama Vihar, Mundka—an area submerged under seven feet of stagnant rainwater for months. AAP’s Leader of Opposition in the MCD House, Ankush Narang, held the BJP-led civic administration directly responsible, demanding ₹1 crore compensation for the grieving family.

The tragedy, he said, was not a natural accident but a civic failure. Garbage from Bhalswa landfill is being cut and dumped in Rama Vihar, choking drains and flooding homes. Families have been forced to vacate their residences, living in rented accommodations while their streets remain submerged.

“The BJP claims Delhi is garbage-free, yet Rama Vihar has become a dumping ground,” Narang stated. “They polish highways for photo-ops whi

while children drown in neglected colonies. This is not governance—it’s abandonment.”

AAP leaders Praveen Kumar and Preeti Dogra joined the chorus of condemnation, accusing the BJP of prioritizing publicity over public safety. “The same garbage mountains they pose before are being shifted into residential plots,” said Kumar. “This is not urban planning—it’s civic cruelty.”

Dogra described the ground reality: mosquito-infested lanes, dense bushes, and no lighting—conditions that made the child’s rescue impossible. “Rama Vihar has become ‘Kooda Vihar’. The silence of BJP leaders is deafening. Not one has visited the family.”

AAP has issued three urgent demands:

  1. Immediate drainage of waterlogged areas.
  2. A halt to garbage dumping in residential zones.
  3. ₹1 crore compensation for the victim’s family.

“This is not just about one child,” Narang emphasized. “It’s about every family forced to live in fear. Delhi deserves better.”
